“Lovely little B&B, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

My husband and I came for my birthday and found Ca' Fontanea charming. It was clean and looks recently refurbished. The service was great too. It is a little challenging to find at first but once you find it you realise how easy it is to locate - bring a map! This was my third trip to Venice and this is the best value place that I have stayed in. It's also lovely to be off the beaten track, especially on the busy Carnivale weekend. The breakfast was the usual continental breakfast but all was fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend Ca' Fontanea to others and if we are ever fortunate enough to be back in Venice we would definitely stay there again.

“Received a different room than I booked.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

I want to first say that Beatrice & staff were very friendly, and our room was nicely cleaned each day. Before I decided on this B&B, I read all of the reviews, and looked at all of the pictures taken. I saw someone's picture of a "triple" room that looked really spacious and had a nice white sofa in it. This looked like the perfect place for our first time in Venice, so I began emailing Beatrice. I asked for the triple room, and confirmed that it was indeed the room with the white couch and little kitchenette. She assured me that they were one and the same, so I proceeded to book the room.

Upon arrival, we were shown to our room, which was on the top floor---which turned out to be the equivalent of an attic. I asked if this was the triple room, and she said that it was. I was extremely tired from our 15 hour flight, and had just caught a cold, so at that point I just settled for the room that was given us. But this definitely was NOT like the pictures I had seen online. (Please check out my photos).

This room has a tiny balcony that you can climb up to, a small kitchenette, and a very small bathroom. The bed was king sized and comfortable. It also has a small TV (which is only viewable from the bed). The main drawback to this room was the height of the ceiling--I am very short, and I hit my head on the overhead beams many times, as did my husband. The room seemed dark and made me feel claustrophobic. There are only a small handful of rooms, and some of the stairs sound hollow, so we were able to hear everyone who came and went.

I am not writing this review to bash the B&B-- I only want people to have a fair representation of the facts, since I have not seen another review on this particular room. The other rooms reviewed are white and spacious looking, which is what I expected to get upon arrival.

We are very sorry that you have not liked our guest house.

We are thinking there has been a misunderstanding by both sides during the
booking process.

Firstly the room with white sofà that you have described like a triple room is an apartament of 70 mq2 with a double room, bathroom with shower, kitchen, living room and two balconies.

The room that we booked for you measure 25 mq2 ,the midair of ceiling is 240cm, has a double room, one small kitchen, bathroom with shower and balcony and looks a square on both sides.

If you want to contact us we are available to refund 100% of the cost of your reservation as excuse if on reservation is specified that you have booked the apartment.

“Nice stay in Cannaregio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

The hotel is located in the outskirts of Venice proper - you can see the mainland from a nearby fondamente. It is not so far away from the Santa Lucia station, although you need to pass a number of stairs on the way, and it can be tricky with luggages. Alternatively, it is two vaporetto stops away.

The reception only works in the morning, so it may be a problem to some travellers who need assistance later in the day. There is a phone number you can call, but we didn't need anything and did not call.

The room was okay, it had a TV, good bathroom and shower facilities, a fridge (disguised as a simple cupboard, you need to look for it). The area around is very quiet and the sleep will not be disturbed. Nearby you will several pizzerias and bars, and a bit further - some shopping areas. The vaporettos stopping nearby bring you to Murano, train station, Rialto, and San Marco.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

We selected this hotel because it described itself much like a B&B, or something local and personal in Venice. We wanted to avoid the tourist crunch and get at least a taste of local Venice. The location delivers, as it is located in a remote section in a local neighborhood. This we liked very much. The hotel, however, does not deliver on a number of items. The innkeepers are not on site as described, the reception desk is only open from 8:30-noon, and the breakfast is basic. If one encounters a problem, you are instructed to call the person who lives next door (who also does the maintenance and cleaning). We got the impression that the owners have lost interest and are taking as much profit out of the enterprise as they can.

“A good find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2010

We arrived early at the hotel, around 11am to leave our bags and were pleasantly suprised to be able to check into our room. Although it was the room behind reception, we didn't have any problems with noise, even at breakfast time. The room was a good size, clean and tidy. Breakfast was good, with delicious croissants, cereal, yoghurt and very nice cappacino. The location was also very good, a nice walk from Piazza Roma and near to Vaparetto stops. Overall a great value hotel and we would stay here again.
