“lights out”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We have just stayed in the Ormesini appartment which is closer to San Marco than the others rooms offered by Ca' Fontanea so location wasn;t bad. Also the ormesini appartment was the only one with a breakfast room which was overlooking the canal. These were the only pluses of this appartment. The trouble started when one night we stayed in our room and after switching on the cooker and the heater the lights went out and in the middle of the night i had to go out of the room and go down a long very dark (pitch black) corridor to check the main switch. After coming back to the room an other 10 minutes passed and light went out again and i had to do the same procedure over again. Basically, this problem persisted for an other couple of times each time going out with a torch to check the main switch. To make things worse this corridor was open to the road outside. Also room wasn't very clean to start with, such as the pillows cases had stains on them.

The hotel/appartment offer gifts to guests who spend their birthday, anniversary with them but because i booked with booking.com the hotel staff said that I couldn't avail myself from this.

Also we paid a lot for this appartment but because it is an "appartment" we were treated with less respect i.e. no-one offered any help with anything during our stay.

All in all if you have to stay somewhere stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else

We are deeply sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay in our apartments.

We would like to clarify that the price paid was in line with the rates on Venice in November.
The welcome offered was the same that we have with the guests of our hotel and we tried to make your stay more enjoyable allowing you a free early check in and late check out to make you possible to enjoy the most of your holiday on Venice.
We were always available by phone and when there were problems we asked you to keep us informed in order to solve the problem as quickly as possible.

Sincerely

“Highly recomended”

A great little hotel that me and my family certainly loved. Roomy, clean, quiet and relatively cheap (for Venice standards) is highly recommended. The only dissandvandage was that transportation isn’t very convenient on the way back to Piazzale Roma. Vapporeto no 52 takes you very close to the hotel but goes only to one direction, so going back to the Railway station or to Piazzale Roma needs about 15 min walking or a taxi (around 50 €). Of course this is something that stands for the majority of Venice hotels. I would definitely go there again.

“Small but really beautiful hotel in Canareggio, Venice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Ca' Fontanea hotel in Venice in May 2011. From "Piazzale Roma" where the Ryanair bus stop is located, the hotel is in a walking distance and you don't need to take one of the steamers. In a little alley close to the estuary of the canal the hotel is located in a quiet area.

Due to a late check and misunderstanding at the first day we stayed in the "suite" on the second floor which also has a small kitchen and a wooden balcony. It was a brilliant atmosphere and you didn't hear anyone else. For the next 3 nights we stayed in the room we originally booked. It was located right next to the room were breakfast was served but still very big. As the walls are thin you could hear noises from the breakfast room starting around 07.30 - which was not a problem for us at all since we came to Venice to see the city. People who want to sleep in, better stay in one of the rooms on the first/second floor.

Breakfast was good (rolls, cereals, yoghurts, different croissants, jam, honey, nutella, ....) and absolutely satisfactory for the size of the hotel. Overall the staff was really friendly and helpful (e.g. for trips to Burano/Murano) and the area is really good as both Rialto and San Marco are in a walking distance (30min max).

Right around the corner of the hotel was a small construction site - but again, we never heard the builders so it wasn't a problem either. The only negative aspect was the shower in the bathroom. As it is right under a skewness/slant, tall people might have some problems while showering.

Overall we'd stay in the hotel again and can really recommend the place to other people!

“Excellent small hotel”

We stayed at this hotel with good friends on the recommendation of another of their friends. It proved to be an excellent find and helped us to enjoy a wonderful holiday.

Although away from the hustle and bustle of SPiazza San Marco Square, transport links with all parts of the city, the train station and the airport are readily available.

The service at the hotel was excellent with the Director/Manager and her assistant taking a real interest in us. The breakfasts were very good and our rooms and general areas were extremely clean.
The hotel is in the unspoilt Cannaregio area of Venice which is unspoilt and offers many places to eat well and relatively cheaply.

“Lovely little B&B, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

My husband and I came for my birthday and found Ca' Fontanea charming. It was clean and looks recently refurbished. The service was great too. It is a little challenging to find at first but once you find it you realise how easy it is to locate - bring a map! This was my third trip to Venice and this is the best value place that I have stayed in. It's also lovely to be off the beaten track, especially on the busy Carnivale weekend. The breakfast was the usual continental breakfast but all was fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend Ca' Fontanea to others and if we are ever fortunate enough to be back in Venice we would definitely stay there again.
