We stayed at Palazzo Stern from 22/1/12 to 25/1/12 and we were extremely pleased with our choice.
We had the Junior Suite on the third floor with a small balcony. Our room was very quiet, comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was exquisite and modern, stunningly decorated with beautiful mosaics. The curtains and the drapes looked little old but it wasn't really a huge concern for us. Our room and bathroom were always very clean. What I loved most about our room is the the huge windows and the small balcony that opens up to the stunning view of the Grand Canal. We were able to enjoy the view any time in the day while enjoying a glass of champage (complimentary upon our arrival) or coffee (complimentary for the entire the duration of our stay). The experience was almost magical! Some people complained about the noises from the vaporetto stop early in the morning but I must say it didn't even bother us one bit.
The hotel looks absolutely stunning from outside and is definitely one of the most beautiful palazzos along the canal. The interior of the hotel is just as equally gorgeous. The deco is elegant and the extensive use of Murano glasses, vases, interesting mosaics everywhere adds to the ambience and Venetian charm. The breakfast room is really beautiful as well.
Being our first visit to Venice, we found the location of the hotel cannot be more perfect and it is very easy to get to from the Santa Lucia train station on vaporetto. The neighbourhood is quiet yet charming and lovely to walk around day and night. There are many great restaurants along Calle Lunga San Barnaba which is only down the street from the hotel. Ca Rezonico vaporetto stop being right next door makes getting around on vaporetto extremely convenient. We were particularly thankful to the front desk who recommended that we buy a 2 days vaporetto pass as we did end up taking the vaporetto almost to all of the main attractions along the Grand Canal as well as to out to the Lagoon on the other side of Venice which were in fact some of the most enjoyable experiences while in Venice.
The staffs at Palazzo Stern, from the front desk to the bell porter to the breakfast room were always gracious, polite, and couldn't be more helpful. We requested hot water and espresso every evening and it was delivered to our room within 5 minutes and all were complimentary. The hotel also helped us with our dinner reservations at restaurants and responds to my emails were also very prompt. Breakfast was fantastic with lots of healthy choices such as whole meal bread, fresh fruit, yogurt and juices. You could even request them to cook your eggs. Wifi connection was very fast as well.
Overall, our stay at Palazzo Stern was incredible. We wouldn't stay anywhere else when we return to Venice next time.
