This place was a place of sanctuary for me , fleeing Iran and its unrest in the late 70's.....I was a studient here...I lived and prayed here...I miss the small chappel the most...the hidden bird cage....snack time..choclate and bread...the tv room...the day the Mayor of Venice came to visit and we all lined up and they arrived at the port and we greeted them..reception in the great hall...I went room to room , just to open those big wooden doors...the laundry room,..my locker number was 136...the shower...the showering day!!! our road trip to St.Lazarros Island, to the winter retriet...the marble stair case the leeds to the dorms...the fall, the winter, the spring, unforgettable..memorries everlasting...A great history holds the ornated walls...like to say hello to all my teachrs..Hair Hroutoom,Hair Vartan, Hair Gabrilell, Hair Michaelll..and if Hair Harootoon reads this ...this message is for you.."I often think of ur depiction,,as how a bouqet of roses have torns within"...

“Terrible stay, ruined Venice for us”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

WORST EXPERIENCE OF A PLACE I HAVE EVER HAD. The exterior of the building was a little run-down when we first found it but we optimistically put it down to 'character'. Inside, the staff were moody and abrupt, again we cataloged it under 'local Italian charm' and expected the accommodation to make up for it.

But once we got to the prison-cell of a room, up a back stairs where only half the lights worked, there was little to disguise the poor quality of this establishment. The room was extremely stuffy and cramped, and the white walls were dirty with many varieties of stain. Unfortunately I had come down with a flu when we arrived so all of these things which we possibly could have overlooked had we been outside sight-seeing all day, were increasingly forced upon us as I spent some time sleeping in the room during our first afternoon in Venice.

However, these things were all small-fry when it came to the first proper night of sleeping. Our room was directly outside the mens' shower room and toilet which led to constant door-banging and noise literally all night, along with a distinct smell of urine always available just outside our door. A local bell rings every half hour all through the night which did not help matters.

The worst however was the complete infestation of mosquitos in the room. There were no wooden shutters, mosquito nets or adequate curtains on the windows. Therefore, not only did we have to bake in the heat without opening the window for fear of more mossies, we also had an all-night assault of the existing ones eating us alive. The results were huge red bites all over our arms, stomach, legs and face which I am still hounded by two days after arriving home.

Foolishly we didn't complain and stayed a second night after my boyfriend went on a mozzie-killing spree that day. However the many cracks and open sockets in the wall ensured that the room was fresh with mosquitos again come bed-time. We tried in vain to get some sleep under cover of sheets to avoid the mosquitos, but eventually gave up any hope of rest at 3 a.m. and preferred to hang around the bus terminal and airport for an extra four hours than spend any more time in this hell-hole.

Although we are relatively easy-going and weren't expecting the Ritz, the location of this accommodation and the desire to spend as little money as possible whilst seeing Venice ABSOLUTELY DID NOT make up for the experience of staying in this dump. Spend the extra tenner a night each and stay somewhere else.

We been there for 3 days in middle of October. The bed (single) or not very confortable, forget about heat romms cause the heater block is to small, the best secret of this old cllege is the wonderful garden in the back yard, The internet is wireless near by the desk office, Ok. for the price if you don't want to pay more.....

“CRAPY HOSTEL! WARNING!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

Two friends and i arrived in Venice and after a short walk we found what we could not believe was the hostel we had made reservations for. First of all, no sign what so ever and the office looked more like an entryway to a old museum with it's postcards the first thing you saw. Had to ask if this really was the hostel. We got our room key and went upstairs where the first thing we saw was a cat walking around the building. The entire building was creepy. Like an abandoned museum without furniture. The room was discusting. Mosquitos all over due to the broken mosquito net i the window. We went downstairs, trying to get out of it by blaiming it on our terrible allergies. It was in possible but we manage to get out of the secound night. While sleeping you could hear everything going on in the other rooms. Super hot with mosquitos biting you, I only got a couple of hours of sleep. Got out of there at 7 in the morning to go to our super nice hotel we found for only five euros more per night.

“Terrible, noisy, inconsiderate neighbours!"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2009

1.We booked online. Got a confirmation. Yet, when we arrived, there was no records of our names on their computer system. We were given a room anyway, provided that the other person did not arrive.

2. The walls were not walls but very thin office partition. You can't tell if who's knocking on whose's door...the sound just resonates across. (it could be quite alarming when u hear someone knocking at your door in the middle of the night, though he/she is knocking at another's door-it was very inconsiderate of them to do)

3. The door handle bars were very filmsy and always came apart when pulled...so there;s very little security. Make sure u do not leave anything valuable in the room.

4. At night, after 11pm, there is still incessant chatting (in Italian or Austrian or some foreign language I couldn't decipher).
Despite my desperate pleas, they continued with their chatting...extremely inconsiderate!

5. we tried to the pay the fees in credit card but the machine is down (worker said that machine damaged bythe flood and he never made an attempt to get it repaired!) wE had to pay in cash! 118 euros is a lot of cash!

6. If one can't afford to stay in Venice, then don't. Make it a day trip there. You deserve a more decent place for the price u are paying!
