“A Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The Relais Venezia is truly a gem of the boutique hotels. Located within a 5 minute walk of St. Mark's Square, this hotel is wonderfully located and has been tastefully remodeled in the past couple of years. Its location puts it in the middle of all the great Venetian activities yet it is just removed enough to provide you with the peace and solitude that you may want after a long day of Venetian sight seeing, shopping and restauranting! The hotel was impeccable, the rooms large and comfortable, the staff could not do enough for us. We were a party of 5 with 3 rooms and saw both double and single rooms. A beautiful breakfast was laid every morning with made to order cappucino, espresso, Cafe Americano and it was great coffee!! The staff was able to answer any question we posed regarding major locales in Venice and most of the time was able to give us specific direction as to how to get there. They shared with us some of the little Venetian secrets that most tourists never find out about - places for great wine tasting, restaurants where no one speaks anything but Italian and the food was to die for. It was as if you had known each member of the staff for many years. You were treated as a family member; not as a guest who would never be seen again. We hope to visit Venice again in 2013 and would not stay anywhere else!

“Good but hard-to-find location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Definitely have a GOOD map in hand when trying to find the hotel or ask the receptionist ahead of time for directions to the hotel from St. Mark's Square. This boutique hotel is definitely modern and clean with a very neat design aesthetic. We stayed in the "white room" and it was the nicest room we stayed in on our journey. Because the room looks out onto a dark, grungy alleyway, we decided to keep the windows closed to prevent any mosquitoes from coming in. FYI, when the windows are closed (and the lights are out), the room gets pitch dark. It's like sleeping in a tomb, so consequently we slept well! Plus, the "white room" is between floors 1 and 2, so you don't have any neighbors on either side and there's no need to worry about thin walls. There's a laundromat about 2 minutes away that we found easily thanks to directions from our front desk receptionist. Our breakfasts were the most basic ones we had in our travels, but that's Venice for you (i.e. the dollar gets you very little in this extremely expensive city). The hotel was very clean and the bathroom was easy to maneuver in, even considering the typical small sizes in Europe. We were about a 2 minute walk from St. Mark's square, so we were close to the action with half the price-tag. There was also free wi-fi we could use in the rooms and it worked well. There is an elevator in the hotel, which apparently is uncommon in this old city, so it's handicap accessible. Lastly, there's a pharmacy nearby on the way to the laundromat.

TIP #1: The front door to the hotel is a clear glass sliding door with an electronic keypad. Your room key opens it but when first arriving to the hotel, simply ring the doorbell and the receptionist (located on the 2nd floor) will open the door for you. Walk up the 2 flights of stairs to the receptionist's desk. Odd layout that might confuse some.

TIP #2: If you pay in cash (i.e. not with a credit card), they'll give you a discount. Had we known this in advance, we would've paid cash.

Room Tip: Go for the "white room." You climb the least amount of stairs to get to it, you don't...

“Excelent Location, Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We stayed here inbetween Christmas and New Year and really enjoyed our stay.
It is a very nice boutique-style hotel, in a great location just round the corner from St. Marks Square.

The room was a good size with a view over the roof tops towards St Marks Square. It was clean, good value for the money but the breakfast was a bit basic and when served in our room (which was recomended to us on arrival) we had even less choice.

The concierge at the hotel was friendly, very helpful and offered a good discount for paying in cash.

The only issue for us was that the WiFi didnt reach our room so we had to use the reception area to access the internet.

I would definately recomend this time of year to visit as it is very quiet and romantic.

“Good stay at Relais Venezia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Stayed at the Relais Venezia in early December 2011, well run boutique-type hotel, GREAT LOCATION- very easy walk from St. Marks Square. Really nice, pretty room on the small side, very clean, great bathroom. Reasonable value for the money. The included breakfast had great espresso/chocolate/tea- whatever you wanted! Concierge at the hotel was relatively helpful. This was one of the best continental breakfasts we got throughout Italy! And the server at breakfast was lovely and friendly!

Minor downside was the room we were assigned on the first floor right by the front door didn't have wifi inside the room. We had to go upstairs to the common area to use wifi. This ended up being irrelevant because wifi throughout the hotel was down for much of the time we were there. Also temperature of the room was difficult to control.

“We would stay here again and again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I booked a reservation at Relais Venezia after several days of research. Arriving at the train station in the early afternoon, we took the vaporetto from the train station to St. Mark's only to find that the square was flooded (a temporary condition in the middle of the day) so we had to change our planned route to the hotel. It's embarrasing to admit, but we found it a bit tough to find the hotel the first time - mainly due to the unplanned detour. When we arrived, we were immediately impressed by the hotel and the very friendly and attentive staff. We were assigned a room just off the lobby and front desk area, but we had no issue with noise whatsoever. Our room, bed and bath were lovely. The room was very well decorated and that made our stay in Venice feel even more special.

As others have said, the location of this hotel is almost perfect if you want to walk to the main attractions of the city. The only reason I didn't give an excellent rating is due to the lack of selection at free breakfast which was a bit disappointing compared with the rest of the experience.

Everything considered, we were very happy with our stay at the Relais Venizia and recommend this hotel to our friends and family.
