“At home in Venice”

Traveled with my partner in mid-autumn 2011. We arrived in the evening and easily got lost in the tiny streets of Venice. We called the hotel and asked if we could be picked up and they sent their porter who carried our luggage and led us to the hotel.

Pros:
1) Great location... especially if you want to go for a gondola ride as some of them are parked right outside the hotel doorstep.

2) Buffet breakfast is typical Italian... cold cuts, breads and cheese. Set in the cozy sitting area overlooking the charming patio and canals.

3) Staff are very friendly. Rooms and bathroom were freshened up daily.

Cons:
1) Although this could be a pro, IMHO the room decor was too heavy and dark. Perhaps this was the hotel's way of showing the typical Venetian decor of old. Our room furniture was dark wood, the wallpaper was in dark green and maroon.. it was just felt heavy everywhere you looked.

2) Bed cover looked like an old tapestry, and it made our skin itch.

“We enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Stayed for three nights over New Years. Rooms were large and well furnished. Bed was very comfortable and staff at the hotel was friendly. Breakfast was good with croissants, yogurt, cereal and others. Our rooms did not have a view, but that is okay. Location was great.

Room Tip: We had 401 and 404 - same rooms on different floors - No view but Roomy.

“Will not return”

We traveled to Italy for our honeymoon and Venice was our first stop. The room we booked looked exactly the way it appeard in the picture, however the feel was very different. The air in the room felt stiff and old (may be typical of hotels in Venice), the bed was hard and consisted of two beds put together which made it very difficult to sleep on and do other things as there was a crack right down the middle. I booked the hotel with miles and neglicted to mention the second traveler (my husband) on the reservation. As a result, upon arrival they charged us an additional $150 for 2 nights. Again, i didn't know if this is typical, but i thought the increase in price was pretty steep!! Upon returning i "booked" a room through the website and found that the price remained the same whether there was one traveler or two. This is sad to know as even the manager was in on it.

The staff was also not very accomodating. On the first day we asked the consierge if he had a map of Venice and he said, "Of course, right here" and he pointed to it and continued doing as he was, so we simply thought he misunderstood the question and thought we asked if he had one for himself. Upon checking out we realized there was actually a stack of maps under that one he pointed at. (We couldn't help but laugh after.) We also couldn't seem to turn on the TV so we called the concierge and asked them how to, he said he'd send someone up. 10 minutes later he still hadn't arrived so my husband called again and the consierge snapped and said, "we only have one bell boy and so many rooms." Turns out you turn it on by pressing on the volume... Oh and lastly, the sleep quality wasn't too good. Aside from the fact that the bed was uncomfortable, the walls are very thin and you can hear other couples... enjoying their night and the voices of the people walking through the ally sound as if your windows are open.

Over all, our stay was less than satisfactory. The hotel isn't one of the most expensive ones there, but they could easily improve customers stay by providing honest, helpful and polite service. Our stop in Florence and Rome was amazing. We highly recommend NM Porta Rossa in Florence and Boscolo Palace in Rome!

“Enjoyed our stay very much...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We booked this hotel for one night prior to a cruise out of Venice. We were very surprised that for the price, it was a great deal. The hotel (which was a former palace) was very clean and quiet. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, especially Andrea Crosera. This hotel had free internet and a complimentary breakfast that was delicious. The room and bathroom were quite large and overlooked a canal. The hotel was a little hard to find, but it was worth it. We tried to book the same hotel after the cruise, but they were sold out. We were disappointed with the other hotel, which was part of the Best Western chain. We HIGHLY recommend Casa Nicolo Priuli.

“We really enjoyed it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We recently spent a week at the Casa Nicolo Priuli and our experience was very different from that of previous reviewers. We booked through Inghams, the week was an add-on to a week at Lake Garda. There were 3 hotels in Venice to choose from and we selected this one purely on the basis of the location. It was clear from the brochure that it was a 3-star hotel. We paid extra for a canal view room and were very happy with it. Having looked at the hotel's website I agree there are serious issues with it - it's not clear about the different gradings for the main hotel and the "casas" - but this didn't affect us. We checked in at the main Palazzo Priuli, and breakfasted there, but otherwise we really enjoyed the experience of having our own "front door". We were on the top floor with what seemed to be apartments below, but we never experienced any noise, and the reception staff at the Palazzo were perfectly charming and helpful. I think as long as people are aware that it's a 3-star property (and the hotel needs to do something about that website) they would be fine with the facilities.
