We traveled to Italy for our honeymoon and Venice was our first stop. The room we booked looked exactly the way it appeard in the picture, however the feel was very different. The air in the room felt stiff and old (may be typical of hotels in Venice), the bed was hard and consisted of two beds put together which made it very difficult to sleep on and do other things as there was a crack right down the middle. I booked the hotel with miles and neglicted to mention the second traveler (my husband) on the reservation. As a result, upon arrival they charged us an additional $150 for 2 nights. Again, i didn't know if this is typical, but i thought the increase in price was pretty steep!! Upon returning i "booked" a room through the website and found that the price remained the same whether there was one traveler or two. This is sad to know as even the manager was in on it.
The staff was also not very accomodating. On the first day we asked the consierge if he had a map of Venice and he said, "Of course, right here" and he pointed to it and continued doing as he was, so we simply thought he misunderstood the question and thought we asked if he had one for himself. Upon checking out we realized there was actually a stack of maps under that one he pointed at. (We couldn't help but laugh after.) We also couldn't seem to turn on the TV so we called the concierge and asked them how to, he said he'd send someone up. 10 minutes later he still hadn't arrived so my husband called again and the consierge snapped and said, "we only have one bell boy and so many rooms." Turns out you turn it on by pressing on the volume... Oh and lastly, the sleep quality wasn't too good. Aside from the fact that the bed was uncomfortable, the walls are very thin and you can hear other couples... enjoying their night and the voices of the people walking through the ally sound as if your windows are open.
Over all, our stay was less than satisfactory. The hotel isn't one of the most expensive ones there, but they could easily improve customers stay by providing honest, helpful and polite service. Our stop in Florence and Rome was amazing. We highly recommend NM Porta Rossa in Florence and Boscolo Palace in Rome!
