“Awful and spooky!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

The room we got was very spooky - the doors squeak a lot - is WD40 so expensive in Venice? The Thai lady doesn't know English - we called to confirm our booking but she cancelled it instead and I had to call again to confirm it but she kept on blabbering that I wanted it cancelled.. her husband is very friendly though. Try speaking to him - he is much calmer than her. The best part is yet to come - for breakfast, we got a bowl of cornflakes. A reasonably sized bowl with I think 10-15 flakes in them!! She also served omelets and toast. It is 15min walk from Rialto bridge and St Mark's square - not 5min. You are not allowed to enter the room before 2pm even if it empty and clean - you cannot keep you luggage inside your room, pee and leave (I came at 12pm and had to pee)!! You have to pay in cash and not CC which was not mentioned before. Terrible experience. If you want to find this place please ask for Maria Farmosa - its just a "block" away from the square - it took us 45min to find this haunted house! Internet access was very bad - we had to sit on the stairs to get it. Not worth the Venice experience.

“Not so perfect..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

The info about this hotel says it is a 5 minute walk from the vaporetta, definitely not true. This is a 15 minute walk up and down several sets of stairs through tiny streets where the names are not so visible and when you are dragging two 35 lb suitcases with you it is practically impossible. Lucky for us, Fabio, a porter stands at the vaporetta ready to help tourists with their suitcases and brings you to your location, for a 25 euro fee of course but after following him through all the little streets of Venice to our hotel, it was worth the money. He also brought our suitcases back for us at 6;30 a.m. in the morning when we were leaving, again for a fee. If we were 25 years younger we would have attempted it. The hotel itself is tucked away in a very quiet little alcove. The room was a decent size with 14 feet ceilings and decorated with big old furniture. The twin beds were harder than I had expected. I don't want to complain too much because value wise it was one of the less expensive hotels in Venice. The breakfast was great, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, crepes and an omelette, so definitely enough to keep you going until lunch. We did not stay in the room that often . The towels in the room, as another critic put it, were like brillo pads and that was so very true. They did have free wifi which was nice. When we were ready to pay, we were told there was a new tax that had come into effect which added $9.00 for each person to the bill, something they claim they had told us in an email but I know they did not.

“Perfect location, friendly staff, nice breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We paid €120 a night in September 2011 to stay here and we would happily do it again. We stayed in a double room on the first floor which had a low, beamed ceiling (which we loved). It felt like a suite or small apartment as when you go through the door there is a small hallway with the bathroom to the left and the bedroom straight ahead. We loved the windows onto the canal and spent plenty of time watching the water traffic! Other reviews we read said it was noisy at night but we didn't hear a thing - I took earplugs just in case but didn't have to use them. The lady running the place - I think her name is Nok - told us the traffic starts about 7:30am with beeping of horns etc.

The room itself is adequate. The bed was comfortable but not the best. The furnishings looked a little tired but we didn't mind and overall it had a nice Italian feel to it. The air conditioning was amazing! It was so warm at night that I don't kniw if we would have been able to sleep without it. Nok was lovely by the way - her English is a little limited but she knows enough to get by. My Italian is not great but I think she appreciated that I tried!

The breakfast was lovely and filling - plenty of reviews on here mention this but don't tell you what it consists of. 3 out of 4 days we got an egg beaten into a mini omelette, also 2 small pieces of toast, a croissant, yoghurt, cereal, fresh fruit, and a huge glass of fruit juice with your choice of tea or coffee. We thought that was a pretty adequate breakfast and had plenty of filling things yet was nutritious.

The location of this place is perfect - the quickest route we found to St Mark's Square was probably 15 mins away at most. The directions on the website are mostly adequate but you must use them with a map, and that is the problem as on most maps you will not find Borgoloco Pompeo Molmenti. It is pretty easy to find from Salizada San Lio - if you are going along there from
Rialto direction, you will pass Hotel Bruno and then it is the next left by Calzedonia (Calle del Paradiso). At the end of Paradiso you will cross a bridge, turn left and you will see Calle del Dose. Go down there, turn right at the end, and it will bring you out into a courtyard which is Borgoloco Pompeo Molmenti. The B&B is the building right at the very end. If you don't spot the courtyard in time and go straight on it just takes you over a bridge into a huge square with bars and
Sta Maria Formosa church, so you will know at that point that you need to turn back.

Would we stay here again! Hell, yes! Having walked around Venice, this would be the first place we would try for. Be warned though, they only have 3 rooms so it books up fast.

One last thing to mention: the Venetian government has introduced a tax for all accommodation in the city which must be paid in cash in addition to whatever your room rate is. For a B&B it is €3 per person per night.

“GREAT place to stay- Very romantic!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Nicoleta was very nice and accommodating! We arrived late in Venice, and yes, the trek to the hotel required some navigation but it was actually quite fun to wander through our map! Just be willing to ask questions on the way! When we finally found the hotel, we were VERY pleased with the quiet, less crowded location. It was very romantic, and the room was excellent. Beautiful woodwork, and the canal view made it even more charming. Big room, big bathroom, lots of storage space, and windows with view of the canal in bedroom and bathroom. We were very pleased with the room and even sacrificed an entire afternoon of site-seeing to stay in the room and enjoy Venice from there. The breakfast was nice, as well. I highly recommend this place. I was actually a little nervous because of previous reviews, and I suspected the lower price compared to other hotels in Venice to match quality, but it was actually very charming.
My only complaint is that I had Nicoleta mail my diamond earrings on a Tuesday to my next hotel and told her we'd be checking out of the next place on Saturday so they MUST arrive there, but she waited until Friday, the day before, to mail them, charged me $30, and of course they didn't arrive until we were on our way back to the US. It was very frustrating and I thought this to be of very low service quality. When I asked her about the confusion through several emails, she failed to respond to any of them. However, the actual stay was very pleasant.

“Stay Away, Far Away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

This B&B is not worth your time or money. Even though it is located on a canal and had breathtaking views, the rooms are run-down, smelly and dirty! Our bathroom tub had mold, the sink hadn't been cleaned and the towels felt more like brillo pads. The location of the B&B is perfect; not far from central canal and a quick walk to St. Marco Square. Everything is in walking distance! The breakfast in the morning is good but the same each and every day; there was no variety. While the staff was very nice and helpful, the B&B should be shut down and condemned it is that filthy!
