We are a family with two young children, 2 and 6 yo, and we were looking for an apartment in Lido Venice to spent a week in July - August 2009. Oasis B&B had a lot of positive reviews here on Tripadvisor (reasonable prices, wonderful views and a friendly owner) , so it was easy for us to chose it.
In February 2009 I sent my first message there asking whether the Blue Lagoon, an apartment with a view, was available. Soon I got a confirmation of my booking. But two or three days later I received a surprise e-mail from them, in which without any apologies they told me that some mistake had occurred and that the Blue Lagoon was not available on the dates of our trip, and they offered us the Green Residence instead. The Green Residence is a smaller apartment on the ground floor with no view. We were very disappointed, but as we did not want to start another search of accommodation in Lido, we agreed to take it.
Some time later I sent them an e-mail asking about car parking near their property - no replay!!!
A week before our arrival we received an e-mail from them containing very good directions on how to get there. At the same message they also asked about our expected arrival time "to assure their presence for checking-in".
We replied that we would arrive between 15:00 and 16:00.
We arrived at 15:30, but the gate was locked and nobody came to open it, and on the gate there was a message telling "We were waiting for you till the time you informed us, but as you did not show up we are no longer in place. Please call the number xxxxxx and we will be here in 5 minutes, otherwise we will be back at 8 pm". We called the number mentioned in the message, but surprise surprise, nobody answered. We were waiting there and calling and knocking the door for more then half an hour with no result. And if you ever travelled with little children, you can imagine in what condition they were after a long trip in the car waiting there in the hot italian afternoon. The owner called me at 5 pm and said "Mrs B., are you still in front of our door?". No sign of apology!!! Then she said that when we are back to the gate, I could call her, and she would tell me the code with which we could open the gate. Ok, when we finally got into our apartment and the "friendly" lady appeared at the doorway, she told us that her daughter had been on a walk with their dog and had taken the lady's mobile with her. That's why they could not reply! It sounded like a VERY poor explanation to us.
I also wonder how it it possible, that in some reviews they write about how helpful the owners of the B&B Oasis were. Whenever I needed to ask something from her, and went to the reception, she never - not a single time - was there. The door of the reception room was always locked and despite of the message "ring the bell and we'll come to serve you" the door never opened. Only when I came to check out she was right there!
When we rented a family bike and parked it in the garden of the property, she appeared in our doorway within half-an-hour to say "could you take the bike away from the garden". Our children liked the bike so much, that we wanted to keep it for another day. But when I asked her (again she was not at the reception, I just saw her talking to another person and managed to ask my question) whether we could park the bike at night - only during the dark time - in the garden, she replied that "she had no space for that", which was not even true. And the bike rental does not allow to keep the bike over the night if you are going to park it in the street....
And about the garden - it is full of mosquitos! The garden is extremely shady, and sun does not reach it even in the middle of the day. In reality you can not spend any time in this garden because of the mosquitos. And remember to open and close the doors very quickly, otherwise your apartment will be full of those insects. And in any case it was, and our children suffered a lot from the numerous mosquito bites, and it was very disappointing that they could not play in the garden.
So, may be someone liked this place, but we did not. Our italian trip lasted for two weeks, and this was the only place where we did not get satisfactory and friendly service.
