There are goods and bads about the hotel...The entrance is very narrow, steep stairs to hotel rooms, breakfast needs to line up...The good is: location is close to the rail & bus station, room is comfortable, bed is big, our room is very quiet, bathroom is nice...

Can't beat the price (50 Euro for 2 people per night) for staying on the main island. However, it's extremely basic and old and tiny!

If/when we visit Venice again, we'll definitely stay somewhere nicer and spend the extra money.

We stayed in "Hotel Moderno" that was actually Hotel Zechinni when you arrived (I think Hotel Moderno had been closed down, as the address that we were given was a boarded up building!)
The room was clean with good facilities, make sure you take mosquito repellant though, as i got bitten alive on the first night.

It was extremely central, about 5 minutes walk from the bus station if you are going on a Ryanair flight and getting the bus to Venice. Its a two minute walk from St Lucia station, on a main road.

The breakfast was not much to talk about. a big jar of chocolate spread and a croissant. The website advertised it as a hot buffet breakfast, which i certainly was not.

As always, you get what you pay for, and this a reasonable priced hotel with basic clean rooms.

It did take a while to find the hotel moderno, as it went by a different name "Zecchini". The hotel is a short walk from the railway station and the water bus stop. The room was fairly basic, but clean. We stayed during the olympics and you could get Eurosport in the bedrooms. The breakfast was ok, but didn't offer much variety. This hotel is a good choice for a short visit to Venice.
