We stayed here for 3 nights. When we arrived, the staff was helpful and friendly. You can't ask for a better location. We stayed in the triple room and it is large and clean. We also have our own bathroom and looks new. They refresh your towels everyday. As for breakfast, it was so, so. They served croissants, yogurt, orange juice, coffee, milk, and cereal. Nothing to brag about.
As for Venice, it is beautiful. 3 days is plenty. The vaparetto is a great way to go around Venice and it's surrounding islands. We bought a 72 hour pass and we have been using it. We payed 33 euros per person. Well worth it!
As for the restaurants in Venice, the food is very touristy and costly. Before sitting down in a restaurant, look at their menu and it usually says how much the cover charge is and the 12% gratuity. If it doesn't, ask!
We went to have lunch at SORA AL PONTE on San Polo 1588 in Venice. This is near the fish market in Rialto. Here the cover charge is 7.50 Euros plus they tack on a 12% gratuity. They serve appetizer portions of pasta, calamari, and 5 domino size of polenta. As for their pizza, it was small with just sauce. The water, they charged 4 euros. The whole bill for LUNCH was 34.61 euros. This place was a complete RIP-OFF. EAT THERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
We did find a restaurant that was good. This place is called VINI DA PINTO on San Polo 367 Rialto Venezia. Here, there is NO cover charge or 12% gratuity tackedd onto your bill. I had grilled sea bass and that was great. My husband had seafood pasta and our daughter had pasta with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. I think the bill came to 34 euros. We ate well, portions was larger and the food wad good. We went back there for lunch the following day. They do give you bread but that is an extra charge for 1.60 euros. If you don't want it, let them know and make sure you check your receipt.
The bread is not very good in any of the restaurants we have been to. It is dry and hard. Not worth the cost.
If you are on the budget, go to the supermarket instead of eating at the restaurant for every meal. There are also Self-Service restaurants that are cheaper and has decent food.
As for water, if you have to have bottled water, go to the supermarket. At the restaurants they can charge you from 2.50 to 4 euros. At the supermarket you can get a 1.5L of water under fifty cents in euros. Drinking the water from the faucet in Italy is safe. My husband, our 6 year old and I, have drank the tap water since we arrived in Rome. We have been here for 2 weeks and we have not gotten sick from the water.
They don't have ice here. So we have a water bladder and I would put water from the faucet and the places we stay at has a freezer and I would ask them to put it in there. They have been very accommodating.
Let's get back to the restaurant Sora Al Ponte. This restaurant use to be good until the change of ownership. If you want real Italian food, make sure the cooks are Italians not Chinese. Nothing against Chinese, I am Asian and my husband is Italian. Italians knows how to cook great Italian food. Chinese cooks great Chinese food.
