“Small and basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

My fiance and I were originally booked for the Castello, but they shuffled us over to the Locanda Correr a few doors down the alley. I wish I had insisted on a room in the main hotel we booked, but at least the front desk service at the Castello was nice enough, fairly helpful - they allowed us to check in early, and had someone carry our baggage down the street and up the stairs. (Although they forgot the wake-up call I scheduled for the morning we were leaving, which could have resulted in us missing our plane, had we not happened to wake up early purely by chance.) The room is extremely small, and what looks like a large bed is just two smaller mattresses pushed together, which occasionally slide apart when you're sleeping. Other than that and the size of the room, it was pretty average, no major problems - just not as nice as we hoped.

We didn't have huge expectations because we weren't planning on being inside much. We hoped to do lots of exploring and use the hotel mainly as a home base to go back and forth from, but their key policy is frustrating if you're planning on coming and going. You must leave your room keys with the Castello front desk, so it was irritating to have to keep asking for them every time we want to get back in to change or drop off our things. Eventually the night staff told us to just keep the keys with us.

Overall it was an ok experience, good location, and everyone was pretty friendly. Just an annoying key policy, and small room.

“Charming little hotel....loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I was really surprised by this little hotel as I was not expecting much from a 3 star hotel in Venice.
Although it's not a cheap option, the hotel room is clean, relatively new, bathroom is modern but small and all in all a very nice place.
Check-in is at the Hotel Castello (about 10 meters away) but this wasn't a major problem. Breakfast was not great, but good enough. The usual continental breakfast.
Not a good choice for travellers' with limited mobility as we had to climb a lot of stairs to get to the room.

“Great Location - A Nightmare to Find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2011

We spent 30 minutes wandering around the neighbourhood trying to locate the hotel, even local restaurants hd never heard of it!!! Only a street vendor knew it and gave us a clue as to where it was! When we got to the Hotel Locanda Correr, we found a message directing us to the Hotel Castello and we were given a room there and therefore did not actually stay at the Locanda Correr.

The hotel is literally within few minutes walk of San Marks Square and was comfortable and full of character, with antique furniture which gave it a lovely atmosphere. The room was not huge but clean although the bed was very firm and not overly comfortable, although the excercise you have to take walking around Venice guaranteed a good night's sleep! The staff were helpful and spoke excellent English - ideal for lazy British tourists!!! Breakfast was adequate although the dining area was a little cramped.

We thought that it was expensive for what we got, but bearing in mind the location and the very high prices in gereral in Venice, not bad value overall.

Room Tip: Difficult to find - Request an upgrade as a resul.

“overall a good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

The location is superb, and -- for Venice -- the price is reasonable. The English-speaking staff were very helpful from check-in to check-out, and the room was clean and comfortable, although quite cramped. (The in-room fridge was also pretty devoid of anything worth eating or drinking.)
As others have noted, it is also extremely difficult to find. Neither the address on the website nor a google-map of the location could make up for the fact that neither the street it is on nor the nearest cross-street have the same names on their street signs as what appear on the maps. If you have Rick Steves' guide, his directions are accurate. Once having arrived, you should also be prepared to climb two long flights of stairs and navigate a total of three locked doors.
Small complaints aside, I would still recommend this place and return to it if I were to return to Venice.

“Great location, great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

Bottomline: Great location, good value

This hotel was a five-minute walk from Saint Mark's Square. It was in the center of exactly where you want to be on a trip to Venice. When we stayed in March it was about $120 a night, which was a great value for that location. The room was small and simple, but comfortable enough -- about what you'd expect for the price. But it was clean and felt safe, which are my main two requirements when staying at a budget hotel. It was quiet and had a private bathroom.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel for someone who wants to be near the major sites in Venice without paying too much. It was wonderful to be able to wander -- and dance through -- St. Mark's Square late at night, knowing we were only a couple minutes walk from our beds. I would definitely stay here again.
