“Not for us”

After having trouble finding this hotel we arrived at the reception desk where we were given our key and shown our room. The reception staff and man who took us to our room were unfriendly and sterile. The room was as shown in their photos, nothing special, and smaller than we thought. We even upgraded to a junior suite before we arrived, but to be honest this suite is actually a standard room with a bench type seat. Wifi was 6 euros an hour, or 20 euros a day.
We felt very let down by this hotel and its unfriendly staff, and decided to cancel the next two nights. We were having a drink in the compo st Maria when we saw the Ruzzini hotel. We went in and asked if they had any rooms available for the nxt two nights, and not only did they advise us on the room selections, they showed us rooms available. We moved out of the Bonvecchiati.
When I approached the reception desk to change hotels, I gave room 106 instead of 160 by mistake, and the man informed me quite sternly, that there was no room 106 and proceeded to serve another couple. (this couple had a baby in a pram, and i overheard him say they could have a cot put in their room for 35 euros a night!! They declined.) So I waited till he had finished with that couple and again approached him with the correct room number. We would not recommend or go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: There are so many hotels in Venice, I would recommend shopping around carefully.

“UNFRIENDLY staff, USELESS directions, SMALL bathroom &room, CHEAP room furniture, THIN walls”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I've stayed at various hotels in Italy (Rome, Florence, Milan, Turin and now Venice) from 3 stars to 5 stars on multiple trips (and I've been to Paris many, many times and stayed at 3 to 4 star hotels) and I was really disappointed at Palace Bonvecchiati where I stayed for two nights recently.

First of all, the directions they e-mailed me were USELESS! They just told me to get off at the Rialto waterbus stop! That was it!!! I thought the hotel would be really close to the stop or there would be signs. But no! And I had to ask a nice shopkeeper for directions!

The front desk staff member in the afternoon when I checked in was professional but not personal. On the contrary, I saw with my own eyes how this same staff LAUGHED and BANTERED with other guests who happened to be Caucasians. I'm nice and friendly with sense of humor so too bad I didn't get to use it!

The porter who took my luggage to the room had a resentful look on his face even after I tipped him!

I booked a deluxe double room which I didn't find spacious or special. I requested an upgrade which I totally understand depends on availability and they put me on a high floor.

But the room was not satisfactory. Yes, there's a small foyer with closet and hallway but those are WASTED spaces. The ACTUAL ROOM where the bed is is not very big. Same goes for the bathroom. And there is NO SPACE for the toiletry at all in the bathroom! The photos they show online have a double sink but there's only one small sink in my room.

The white desk and chair in the room looked cheap. Nothing special about them.

The hotel room walls are THIN! I could hear people talking in other rooms from the hallway and from my room! The doors bang loudly when people close them.

The night staff (tall and shaved head guy) was not friendly at all. He NEVER CRACKED A SMILE. In fact, he had an ATTITUDE problem.

I had to use my iPhone (which by the way you have to PAY EXTRA for wi-fi!) in the lobby because the connection in my room was lousy.

And I will NEVER FORGET THE DISDAIN and DIRTY LOOK that he shot me as he walked past me (sitting in a corner chair) to go to his staff room next to me. Like my SILENT presence there interfered with his chatting with the porter!

So glad I only stayed there for two nights! I should've stayed at ACQUA Palace (which I also wanted to try but chose Bonvecchiati instead. Big mistake!) instead for those two nights!

I was in Venice for four nights and for the other two nights, I stayed at Pesaro Palace ON THE GRAND CANAL which I personally much prefer! The front desk staff members at Pesaro were all friendly and lovely and personal. Their location is RIGHT next to a waterbus stop! And their lovely courtyard ON THE GRAND CANAL is amazing! There are also 3-4 delicious and moderately priced (by Venice standards lol) restaurants very close to Pesaro. On the contrary, the restaurants near Bonvecchiati are VERY touristy and expensive and some not very good.

I'm not the only one who's complained of their poor customer service and unfriendly staff. Check the other reviews including booking and you'll see others!

I e-mailed Palace Bonvecchiati over 10 days ago saying the room was not satisfactory and the staff not friendly. And I waited for their response all this time. Nothing! They did not even acknowledge my e-mail! It speaks VOLUME about their customer service! Seems like once you've stayed there and they've taken your money, they don't care about your opinions and whether you had an enjoyable stay or NOT!

“Strategic place, nice rooms”

We stayed three nights in a confortable triple room in january 2012. It is a confortable hotel with good and new facilities, a nice staff and a good breakfast. One of the staffs who works in the reception in the morning is particularly helpfull.

Due to its superb localization between San Marco and Rialto and its quality we sure would return. Through a balcony near the reception you can even see and touch the gondolas which pass by.
It is always nice to have a good place to rest after many hours walking through Venice.

“Very Nice Hotel, Good situation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I went to this hotel with my wife during 4 days in January 2012. It was such a good place to stay for those 4 days. The hotel is just between Rialto Pont and Saint Marc Place. It is only 3 minutes to go to those places. The entery of the hotel is so luxury and rooms are well organized and nice. There are some details which are bad as painting on room wall, floor are sometimes a little dirty but the room is clean and beds are so comfortable. Bathroom is clean an nice with bathtub and shower.
People working in the hotel are very nice and they give good explanations to visit Venise. But you will discover when you arrive at the hotel that you have to pay 8€ per day and per person by cash at the end of your journey.
You can enjoy the spa and and training space which are clean and nice.
If you go to the hotel during a low season you can ask a standard room with nice view and bathtub and you may have a Deluxe Room for the same price. It is what happened to us.
The breakfast is not extraordinary but the price is included with the room so it is good.
But remember that if you have a view on water, you will hear noise from boats which works at 5 or 6 in the morning so close your window.
Moreover, it is nice to be at the second or third floor because you will have a better view on the sky.
Enjoy venise...

“efficient luxury”

Stayed here for a new year's break in December 2011. good sized rooms for a crowded city centre hotel, spotlessly clean, everything worked and staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Excellent breakfast buffet and the sister hotel provided a quality meal for the new year's Eve celebrations. Pricey, but fair value for this level of quality.
