“location good - but colourless”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

stayed here for a couple of days and while navigating through the stairways of the hotel was rather an effort. on the flip side, the benefit of it was that you got to stay in the backside of the hotel so it was quiet and your rest is undisturbed from street noise and the loud reveller in the middle of the night. wifi access is only available at the lobby (which is rather expensive) so i would recommend not taking the wifi access there.

overall, if you don't want to lug your luggage far from the station, this and the number of other hotels around this area might be it. if you're looking for places with character, i would go elsewhere.

Room Tip: try not to get a room to far in, otherwise you'll be navigating inside a warren of staircases

“Dark and Cramped”

Navigating the stairways, hallways and rooms of this hotel is like navigating a rabbit warren! The rooms are small and dark. I think the rooms were generally clean but that could be debatable. The staff was ok, Stefano in particular was very nice and gave some restaurant recommendations. The hotel is very outdated (wall-to-wall carpet and fabric covered walls in the rooms) which contributes the appearance that the it is less than clean. I will say that cleaning staff carried lots of bug spray on the carts and routinely used it in the rooms so that was enough to make me nervous! All in all, it was ok I have definitely stayed in better hotels and, unfortunately, I've stayed in worse. I wouldn't recommend this hotel but if you're in a pinch and you need somewhere to stay for a night or two it will probably do...

“If you like stairs . . .”

Had to close bathroom door to see TV, bathroom door only opened halfway as it hit bed. The pics of bathrooms on this website were not any from our group! We had dingy shower curtains; bathrooms were as small or smaller than on a cruise ship. I had to walk a long way, up, down, around--about 25 stairs to my room in "lower level."

“grumpy reception staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

The hotel was clean but decor very outdated. Breakfast basic but adequet. On arriving at this hotel we found the two ladies at reception were unfriendly, uninterested in their work, impatient and rude. This was not the case with the night receptionist who was friendly and smiling while he greeted us. They really could do better in welcoming their guests. I would suggest that you try booking other hotels, leaving this one at the end of your list.

“convenient, affordable and well situated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

A fairly basic hotel with slightly dated decor but less than 5 minutes away from the Grand Canal, a vaparetto stop, railway station and just a little further to a bus station (useful for getting to the airport at awkward hours).

The hotel overall could do with updating but everything we saw was clean and in good repair. The breakfasts were rather basic and only ran from 8-10 (so not totally ideal for early birds who want to be up and out to see Venice) but it was ideal for a quick bite to eat.

The reception staff were on the whole polite but some seemed a little curt. Cleaners and waitresses always greeted customers warmly.

Previouos posters have commented about keys being on display at reception, I don't think this was a major issue as reception is not at street level and was always manned whenever we passed.

I would probably stay here again due mainly to the excellent location and price the only deterrent would be the slightly outdated decoration but I feel this is a minor point to the what is otherwise a very convenient, affordable and well situated hotel.
