“Excellent 4 Star Luxury. A Warm Haven in the Bitter Venetian Cold”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I stayed at the Foscari Palace early February, pre-carnival time. The hotel is beautiful and could not be faulted, everything was perfect and so warm !.

My room 306 was a classic double, very spacious and quiet and overlooked Campo Santa Sofia, with a side view of the Grand Canal. The room was lovely and warm considering the -6 degree weather outside. All ammenities available, bathroom was very luxurious with plenty of toiletries, the shower was perfect, though I did not use the spa bath.

Breakfast was lovely too, could not fault it plenty of selection, though i did not try the hot food, one tip ask the waitress for a fresh coffee, the machine stuff was dreadful.

All staff very polite and helpful, the hotel could not be faulted and I got a great deal of 70 euro per night from venere.com when the hotel direct stated 100 euro.

Would highly recommend a stay here, perfect location, walk to the Rialto in 10 min, San Marco 20 min.

Really hope to stay here again

Room Tip: Side view of canal is ok and quiet

“Shame about the state of the hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Bathroom

COLD
Panel on side of bath partially not fixed to bath
Round hole in end of bath (could see water pipes)
Plug had to be removed in order to use shower as the ‘up and down’ mechanism did not work.
One set of lights over the mirror were not working
Toilet flush sometimes did not work first time.

Bedroom

COLD. Thermostat set to 32, but seemed to make little difference
Ceiling lights – two bulbs in the light which worked on a rotation basis – one would work and then the other would come on and after a few minutes the first bulb would go off.
Dressing table had marks on it obviously made by drinks cup that was never cleaned.

And finally...
The hotel was told on booking that I am celiac and require gluten free food. Unfortunately no-one had the courtesy to inform me that the hotel could not cope with this. Thankfully I packed some breakfast cereal just in case. So I was charged for a breakfast that amounted to a pot of tea (I had my own milk with me) and a portion of scrambled egg each day.

Room Tip: The higher the room number (e.g.126) the nearer the front of the hotel and also on the west side wh...

“Comfy and well-located, excellent value in January”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My double room was spacious and modern, not much of an antique or palace "feel" but quite comfortable by North American standards. Bathtub fixtures are something out of Star Wars, but I was able to get clean. The price -- under $100 U.S. dollars -- was definitely a bargain for Venice. Hotel values are outstanding in January in this usually-pricey town.

The room had a view on the square; by craning my neck I could see the Grand Canal and the Rialto fish market opposite. There are nice canal views from the lobby/sitting area, and a roof terrace with great views. Hotel location is excellent, in real-people Canareggio rather than the tourists-only San Marco neighborhood.

Breakfast was copious; I wish, however, that the coffee had come from the kitchen rather than from the machine.

I have read some critiques on this site of the personnel, but everyone in my experience was efficient and courteous. I requested a late checkout (noon rather than 11 AM) but was refused; not really the sort of treatment you expect in a "palace." Nonetheless, a good place to stay in Venice.

“Perfect Location, Great value”

I was just staying for 2 days so wanted somewhere reasonably nice, central, and economical. The location is idea...about 2 minutes walk from the nearest water bus stop, just round the corner...and no steps! Its just off a fairly main drag of shops and bars etc, meaning you can easily find the hotel late at night, but not at all noisy. St Marks square is about 25-20 minute walk...ideal distance. The hotel itself was pretty clean and tidy, room was large enough...bit chintzy for me, but I guess much of Venice would be! All rooms have a spa bath, but sadly mine did not work. Apparentley the controls "had got wet" at some point, so was faulty. They didnt join my amusement at having this problem on a BATH! Room was pretty dark...but I guess thats a venice problem when all but one wall is very likely to face a small path, and then the neighbouring building! Overall, i recommend this hotel highly.

“Location, Location, Location”

Whenever my wife & I visit Venice, we rent an apartment for a couple of weeks in order to save money. However, we always book a hotel for one night before we move in to our place.
One year while we were on a vaporetto going down the Grand Canal, we noticed the Foscari Palace across from the fish market. My wife said,"I bet that would be a great place to stay", so the next year I booked a room for a night.
Because of a one day vaporetto strike the next year, we had to walk from the north end of the island to the hotel. Seeing how spent we looked as we walked in the door of the Foscari, the manager brought us two refreshing cool glasses of ACE juice. Right away, I knew this place would not disappoint.
Our room was something out of a fairy-tale. We had second floor corner room that had two windows; one looking directly across from the fish market, the other overlooking a small canal. Our room had a large bed, beautiful drapes, a Venetian chandelier, as well as a fireplace; a place that even Desdemona & Othello would find comfortable.
On the other hand, the bathroom was a modern as it could be; a large marble tub as well as a shower that had so many heads that you didn't have to turn around to get wet.
After we settled in, we took a wondeful stroll down the Strada Nova which is just around the corner from the Foscari.
That evening, we returned to the hotel & had drinks on the roof. What a view! The next morning, we came down to a breakfast that would make a cruise ship proud. This was the perfect ending to a magical one night stay.

Room Tip: After spending so much $$$, go ahead and ask for a canal view.
