“Great Venue in the Heart of Venice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

This is a great place to stay at a reasonable price. It's a bed and breakfast in an authentic Venetian house. The view from our room was not exactly inspiring, but I don't think we could complain about the location. Just 5 minutes walk from San Marco and close to the Academia. It's situated right next to a small canal (well most places are in Venice) so you could get a water taxi from the airport. We took the cheaper ferry, the best stop was San Marco itself and we had no trouble finding the place (Venice is not massive). At the price and location I'm not sure you'll find better.

“Lovely stay, lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We booked online based on price, location and the images online. The location was excellent, the price was as listed and the images were accurate. Our room was lovely and overlooked the piazza where, in the afternoon, we could hear the opera rehearsing. In the evening there were small performances of operas in the palazzo across the piazza. It was perfect. If you don't wish to buy tickets and attend the performances you need only open your windows and listen!
Do be prepared for the rise and fall of tide as the canal does flood the walkway to the inn. That's Venice! Breakfast was fine. These are VERY old buildings with period decor. If you are looking for something new, modern and shiny I don't recommend this experience. (Nor do I recommend Venice .) If you want to feel this city, Locanda Barbarigo place is perfect.

“Lovely hotel but mind your valuables!!!”

I would like to start this review off on a positive note as there are a number of great features about this little hotel in the heart of Venice. Myself and three friends shared the superior room last week and to all intense and purposes it was an ideal accomodation choice - great value for money, amazing location just a five min walk from San Marco square and even a free audio opera everynight from the operahouse next door. Yes it was abit rough around the edges in terms of the furnishing in the rooms and the breakfast did leave a lot to be desired (I don't know if it would be worth them abandoning the slices of plastic cheese, sweet rolls and aweful coffee and replacing with a plain old piece of toast), however we WOULD have definatly reccomended this hotel if we had not had our money stolen whilst we were out for the day. Obviously we should not have left it in the draw in the room, however we had divided out exactly how much we each owed for the accomodation and went to pay it on the first evening, realising that the desk was not manned until the morning we left it in our locked room to pay the next day. When attempting to pay the next day we realised that the round sum of e600 which we had counted out was stil in the same place but e90 short. As we were all on very tight budgets we were very aware of our spending and would have known if we had spent it elsewhere, which was impossible as it had been in our room. On questioning the staff as to wheather anyone had been in our room we were told our room had been cleaned, which is strange as we had only checked in three hours before and had yet to sleep in our beds when the money went missing. On explaining our situation the staff on the front desk seemed uninterested in our query. For this reason I could not reccomend this hotel, for all of its charm and great location, not being able to trust th staff is a big concern for us!!!!!

Dear Sirs,
We thank you first of all to have chosen our Inn.
We ask you if you sincerely believe that we were able to steal your money?! You think we can make a similar gesture compromising our reputation?
Nobody got into your room except that the housekeeper the following morning to clean your room. Maybe you forgot to say how many bottles of wine and vodka you left empty in the room and the amount of rubbish food thrown to the wooden floor that left an indelible stains of oil. It took two days to clean up the room after you left. We think you should pay more attention to your behavior and way of life rather than to imply that we have stolen your money, do not you think you may be wrong in the count?

“Thank god Venice was beautiful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

I really don't know where to start with this review.. Our experience here was so awful.

The photos provided do not give a very accurate "picture" of what the actual rooms looked like. Even though we selected and paid for the "deluxe double" which was a) the most expensive and b) shown in pictures as a very large room, turned out to be incredibly small. It was barely big enough for two people and looked absolutely nothing like the photos. When we asked the owner about the photos provided, she stated that they were in fact for their Family room, which has five beds. False advertising?

The room we stayed in was no bigger than a shoe box. The place smelt a little strange - the room was dindgy and dark. The Wi-fi was hopeless. The owner had zero personality. When we told her we had paid for the deluxe (larger room) she simply just said "well the photos you saw were for the family room, there are no other rooms for you to move into..thats all we have" - My response is - "What is the point of a reservation then?"
Venice is such a beautiful place, and there are so many other hotels, B&B's and hostels to stay in - Please don't pick Locanda Barbarigo!!

Room Tip: The rooms are horrendous! Honestly, do some more research and pick a room close to either Rialto or...

Dear Sir,
as explained on arrival, our Inn has only 5 rooms. All rooms are of different size.
You had a double room with typical venetian furnitures and wall with silk tapestry.
When possible, we always upgraded our Guest into family room if available.
We remind you that we have only 5 rooms and our atmosphere is friendly and confidential, this is what our guests love more than the size of the rooms. You had the opportunity of staying in a typical venetian palace of 500 years old, this must be the essence of Venice, to live its authenticity.
As far as concern the WIFI, the signal it can not be strong through all the building because the wall are too thick but on main floor and reception area it is ok.

We thank you in any case to have chosen our Inn for your stay in Venice and we are glad you have appreciated our town and hoping in the future to welcome you again.

Kind regards,
The management

“tattered and dirty, bring disinfectant and a sense of humor”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

We are easy-going in our travel expectations and have never written a negative review until today. We had the upstairs "suite" with sitting room. It was the most depressing room -- A hollow low-ceilinged dark room lit with three 15 watt bulbs, underfurnished with left-over prison furniture and a lumpy scratchy pull-out couch that my travel partner refused to sit on. The furniture was dusty and there were hairs in the bed linens, although the sheets felt clean. The bathroom was not clean; the room phone was grimy and only worked to call the front desk. The WiFi didn't work. The breakfast rated a 1 out of 5 stars in part because the self-serve coffee machine produced less than a tablespoon of coffee with each serving and they served white tasteless cheese wrapped in plastic in case you were preparing your kid's lunch.

Dear Sirs, we thank you for your long stay . It is quite singular that you stayed for more than 1 day after what you written .
The room you reserved is one of the most requested from our clients for this reasons:
1- It is a typical venetian “ mezzanine” of a building of 500 years old with characteristic beams on the ceiling; of course the ceiling is not very high .
2- There are 7 lamps in the sitting room ,and 6 lamps in the room.
3- It is a very cosy room overlooking the courtyard where you can hear the music coming from the Opera House close by.
4- You had also a kitchenette in your sitting room ,made at your disposal even if you did not reserve it.
5- Our room-made is usually very thorough on the cleaning but if you noticed something you could inform the reception about the problem
6- On the buffet breakfast we put slices of single-dose cheese covered by transparent plastic for hygienic reasons, so that people cannot contaminate the products.
7- WIFI works with password that you should have asked the reception. The signal it can not be strong in all the building because the wall are too thick but on main floor and reception area it is ok.
8- Our coffee is freshly ground as required by a perfect Italian coffee. The coffee machine was at your disposal, you should have taken as much as you wanted!
9- Our buffet consist in juice, coffee and cappuccino, milk, variety of tea, cereals, yogurt, cakes, break and sweet rolls, jam, honey and chocolate cream (Nutella), cheese, salami and ham, canned fruit and plums. We are not a 5 star hotel but just a 5 rooms Inn.
10- We try to do our best to please the Customer. You should ask at the time but not after returning home and denigrating our structure.

Thank you,
The management
