“Friendly, comfortable and clean..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Just come back from 4 nights at this hotel, and was very impressed with what they are able to offer for the price. Booked through venere.com, who seem to have good prices. The hotel was spotlessly clean, my room was comfortable and a decent, and service was friendly (although nobody there after midday, maybe that's because of the season, although there was somone there to check me in on the day I arrived at 6pm). Reasonably good and plentiful breakfast.

I found the hotel a little hard to find on arrival, I don't really understand the Venetian address system, and the directions are not that clear. But it's only 2 minutes from the S Marcuola Vaporetto stop, and very convenient for getting around the city (also for the Vaporetto stop for Murano and Burano). Lots of good, reasonably priced-trattorias and osterias in the area too.

I'll defnitely go back to the Herion if I ever get to go back to Venice.

“Great Little Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

We recently stayed at the Locanda Herion before a cruise from Venice. We have stayed there twice before. It is great for combining convenience and price. The rooms have always been very clean. It isn't fancy, but entirely adequate in this high priced city. By taking the vaporetto when we arrived to the Marcouli stop, we reached the hotel in 5 minutes. Breakfast was very good and the staff is most helpful.

“Good little B&B in a great location. Very detailed, honest review”

If you are expecting a proper hotel with a big entrance hall and a bell boy then this isn't for you. If you are looking for a small B&B style hotel that is in a great location, with friendly staff at a good price then read on...

If you are like me then you'd be planning on using your time in Venice outside not in your room looking for peeling wallpaper and bits of mold. Yes this isn't the most spotless hotel in the world but Venice old and is built on water. Therefore you can expect a bit of mold here and there.

Location - the hotel is located just of the main thoroughfare from the station area (Ferrovia) up towards Cannaregio. It's 10 mins tops walk. It's not hard to find if you use your eyes. There's a sign on the wall when you need to turn off and then the hotel is just there.

Although its off a bustling area, our hotel room, on the nearest side to the street was not at all noisy. However, some Italian guests did like the sound of their own voices.

Hotel - the lady who runs the place was nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. The shower was lovely and powerful and hot. Breakfast offered cereal, bread, croissants, coffee, juice, yoghurt, pâté, honey, chocolate spread. There was a quite balcony on the inner side of the room which was nice for a pre-evening drink before heading out.

If you do decide to use the vapporetti (water bus), NO ONE CHECKS TICKETS. We spent over 130 euros between 4 people and used it contstantly for 4 days without a single check. Your choice obviously.

“Good value for a two stars hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

A bit difficult to find this is a nice, small hotel not far from the railway station. Rooms are clean and pleasant. Breakfast (the bread) is terrible.

“Ants in the room and smelly pillows”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

This hotel is too expensive for what it offers. The rooms and bathroom were not very clean. We had ants in our room and they got into our suitcases. The air conditioning did not work properly so we had some very hot August nights. The window in the bathroom was broken and could not be opened. We asked the front desk person to send someone to fix it but never happened. The breakfast was mediocre, nothing special. The building was in need of some TLC and paint. The worst thing was the pillows: they smelled REALLY bad. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. On top of that, the price is high compared to other 3 star hotels.

Room Tip: I cannot recommend this hotel
