We stayed at this hotel in May for 2 nights during our world trip of 8 cities in 5 weeks. On our world trip we stayed in a combination of 31/2 star to 5 star accommodation. In comparison to the other hotels we had stayed in, Palazzo La Scala was (what we personally consider) poor value for the $398 Euros we paid in total for 2 nights. Our room (standard double) was extremely small and cramped. My husband and I are not large in size. We couldn't pass each other without the other having to jump on the bed to let the other pass through. The toilet was also very small and so the door was only able to open half way. The only other area we could place our luggage was directly in front of the main entrance door to the room (yet another inconvenience). It was the only other bit of space in the room beside the area directly around the bed (and even then, this space was only big enough to allow x1 piece of luggage laying down). Our view was of another building just meters away. The noise from the air conditioning unit in the room next door kept us awake and so we had to close the window which made the space in the room seem more confined. On the plus side the room was clean and it is conveniently located to major sights and boat services. Hotel had average facilities but our room was far from 4 star quality. Due to the small space of the room, my suggestion to the hotel would be to reserve the room we had for single travellers only. Another suggestion would be to inform guests (prior to their arrival) of the hotels general check in procedure at the sister hotel Bella Venezia to avoid confusion and waiting. I'm aware Venice accommodation is generally pricier but until we spoke to other travellers along the way who too stayed in Venice with similar dates, we realised this is not always the norm in Venice and better accommodation is just around the corner for a much reasonable price.
