“Very convenient”

Check in is at the four-star Hotel Bella Venizia, which is a few doors down. I gather Palazzo La Scala is the "budget" version of the hotel, down a quiet side street between Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. The porter helped us with the bags at check-in. There are many places to eat nearby. Breakfast was decent. The room we had was a little small, with just enough space between the bed and the bathroom door to walk. The bathroom had a good heater, which was great. Everything was clean and comfortable.

“Fair for Venice”

Once you recover from the ridiculous cost of decent accomodation in Venice and accept it then you'll feel better I promise. This hotel is fine, lovely location, clean quiet room with good aircon, nice bathroom with extras all provided and excellently serviced. The breakfast is not English standard of course, but it was edible (unlike some places we've stayed in Venice before). The breakfast room is ridiculously small and there can be queuing which isn't really acceptable for the price being paid I feel. Juice is out of a packet and is horribly sweet. Scrambled egg and italian style bacon was ok, but could run out, again not acceptable for the price. The waitress was nice and as helpful as she could be. I think next time, unless we win the lottery and stay at Danieli, we may try an up-market B&B instead for a change and save a few hundred euros (needed towards costs of eating out in Venice !!)

“Not worth the money we paid... disappointed with the room.”

We stayed at this hotel in May for 2 nights during our world trip of 8 cities in 5 weeks. On our world trip we stayed in a combination of 31/2 star to 5 star accommodation. In comparison to the other hotels we had stayed in, Palazzo La Scala was (what we personally consider) poor value for the $398 Euros we paid in total for 2 nights. Our room (standard double) was extremely small and cramped. My husband and I are not large in size. We couldn't pass each other without the other having to jump on the bed to let the other pass through. The toilet was also very small and so the door was only able to open half way. The only other area we could place our luggage was directly in front of the main entrance door to the room (yet another inconvenience). It was the only other bit of space in the room beside the area directly around the bed (and even then, this space was only big enough to allow x1 piece of luggage laying down). Our view was of another building just meters away. The noise from the air conditioning unit in the room next door kept us awake and so we had to close the window which made the space in the room seem more confined. On the plus side the room was clean and it is conveniently located to major sights and boat services. Hotel had average facilities but our room was far from 4 star quality. Due to the small space of the room, my suggestion to the hotel would be to reserve the room we had for single travellers only. Another suggestion would be to inform guests (prior to their arrival) of the hotels general check in procedure at the sister hotel Bella Venezia to avoid confusion and waiting. I'm aware Venice accommodation is generally pricier but until we spoke to other travellers along the way who too stayed in Venice with similar dates, we realised this is not always the norm in Venice and better accommodation is just around the corner for a much reasonable price.

“really good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2010

palazzo la scala was a good hotel to stay at for a few days. On check in you do need to go to the sister hotel 2 minutes down the road however once you have your key you can come and go as you please. We had a superior double room which was very nice and clean. The bathroom although small was very clean and modern. The room was on the first first floor near the dinning room which can be a little noisey in the morning but was tollerable. The breakfast was lovely lots of choice with hot and cold food better than most european breakfasts we have had at other hotels. On the whole we had a brillant weekend and recommend the hotel

“all excellent- just a small fact I would like to add”

absolutely no complaints
great location, great pleasant helping staff
nice rooms, quiet clean, very nice breakfast in a sweet little room in a homelike atmosphere
- when we arrived the hotel was closed and it was a surprise to discover that you need to check in in the next (50 mt) hotel- La Bella Venezia.
The staff there was extremely nice and helpful. TheThe whole thing was asurprise and take this into consideration. As a matter of fact it did not affect our stay even a bit- it even felt nicer to use the bigger loby and small bar
