OK, so I've read the other reviews and have to agree with some of the comments made: the hotel was hard to find (I'd advise printing the map from their web-site before you go and getting off the water-bus at the Vernier stop rather than the Museo stop as stated). The breakfast was not exactly inspiring (but at least I could get a cup of tea!). I agree too that the shower was dodgy! One minute the water was very hot and the next very cold and then, back to hot again! I found no bed bugs (thankfully!) but I did find the bed very hard so I didn't get the best sleep ever as I kept waking up finding I'd gone numb down one side! But for anyone who prefers a firmer mattress I guess this wouldn't be a problem!
I agree that it is very quiet on Murano once all the day trippers have left but it depends on what you want as to whether this is a good or bad thing. If you want late night clubbing and vibrant bars then this is not the spot for you but if you want somewhere you can relax and take in the scenery then this is perfect. Personally we really enjoyed returning to Murano after a day of battling with the crowds in Venice and being able to get away from it all. There are also lots of interesting little shops to wander around although you may start to feel that there is a limit to how much glass you can look at!
As for eating in the evening, we managed to find a lovely restaurant where you could eat outside, sitting alongside the canal. The first night we were there the hotel staff directed us to a place near Murano's grand canal which we were not overly impressed with (we felt that the staff were surly and food and drink was over-priced) but the second night we looked a little further afield and found a really good place that we returned to on our third and last night there. There probably were other places around but, having found somewhere we were happy with, we didn't venture further.
The hotel itself was clean and very well decorated (with some beautiful Murano glass chandeliers). The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and spoke very good English. We would certainly return.
One final point to note, if you are travelling to the San Marco area of Venice you need to allow around an hour on the water-bus as there are lots of stops en-route and it stops at almost all of them! It's a very enjoyable ride though and especially on a fine day if you can sit outside. It's all part of the experience, just don't expect a quick crossing and you won't be disappointed!
