Important! After alighting the Alilaguna at the Museu Fermata turn left then right down the first alley. When it opens to a piazza turn right. You will encounter a fork with a concrete "feature" (I don't know what that thing was) stay to the right. Locanda Conterie will be on your left. I start with this information because I turned right after alighting in blazes hot heat and humidity and it was 90% longer. Also important is that even if you have the 2011 Garmin NT Europe Maps SD card in your GPS it will have trouble locating you or giving directions, even on Venice proper.
Okay... on to the review. I chose Murano for our lodging because I had read (here) that Venice proper would have a never-ending throng of people in July. I'm so glad that I chose Murano. We were able to experience small town Italy Venetian style.
The Locanda is small, seems to have had many 'additions' given the up stairs, down stairs, up again, etc. configuration of the room placements. I was given a wrong room first after heaving my luggage through various hallways, stairs, and with a severe travel coma going on. I was told to stay put and the housekeeping staff member left. After what seemed like a long time the phone rang and they said they would change the room. The guy that checked me in appeared after several more minutes and we were off again back the way we had labored minutes before. Ugh.
The room was fine. I wasn't planning to spend much time in it. I have read that there were issues with the shower at this Locanda but my daughter and I were fine. We are not high maintenance travelers.
I do agree with the prepackaged nature of breakfast but it was better than a sharp stick in the eye.
The reception is very limited, meaning, they are only open a few hours or open when they know someone is checking in. They are knowledgeable about the Vaporetti, but they would have to be, wouldn't they?
Plan to get the Venice Connected Card if you choose your lodging on the non-Venice proper islands. You would pay 5 times more (we were there 5 days) without it. *Be advised that the Vaporetti stops service at certain Venice proper Fermatas at certain times that are not published. It also starts service at certain times in the evening without notice. One night we got on a Vaporetto just to go to Fondamente Nuove Fermata for a connection to Murano and found that the Vaporetto was actually GOING to Murano. **Fondamente Nuove Fermata will become your friend if you are on Venice proper at night, believe me.
I do recommend this hotel. If you accept it for what it is - a place to sleep and securely leave your belongings while getting to know Venice it is just right.
