“Average hotel, poor rooms, good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Location is fine because it's very close to Central Station, and it's in a beautiful Venice :) but it is far from Main Square and Basilica.
Hotel itself is really quite poor but since everything in Venice is very expensive it can be considered as a cheap acommodation in the convenient place. Not much comfort though - room is very small, there's hardly a space to turn around. Same for bed - very short and narrow, you could call it Italian type or just uncomfortable sleep. Walls are thin, you can hear other guests speaking in the next room. Breakfast poor, but coffee was very good, just you have to ask for espresso, because as default they bring americana which sucks.
Fair value for money in one of the most beautiful(and expensive) places on Earth which is Venice :)

Room Tip: try to get bigger room if possible, cause the one we stayed in was really small

“good hotel at a nice location”

Location: very close (5-min walking) to the train station and the Piazzale Roma bus station, from the later there are two shuttle buses to/from the Marco Polo Airport every 20 minutes. You need to cross only two small bridges to the Piazzale Roma bus station or one slightly larger bridge to the train station. This may be very beneficial if you have heavy luggage. From the hotel, you can essentially walk to anywhere in the city within half an hour. Particularly, there are many eateries/restaurants near the train station so you don't need to worry about find places to eat late in the evening.

Facility: The rooms are not big with the U.S. standard but are more than adequate if you are not very big (over 250-300 pounds). There are a couple of bigger rooms and you may check with the staff to see if such rooms are available. My wife and I stayed twice in the hotel (before and after a cruise trip), first in a standard room and the second time in a big room. We felt very comfortable with both stays. For big people, the shower may be a little bit small but should still be manageable. The rooms are recently remodeled and do not feel old at all.

Breakfast: Some people commented that the breakfast was continental type. It was simple but I think that it was pretty good, definitely not continental. The setting are nice and you have a variety of things to select. You can ask for different coffees to be served (rather than get from a big bottle by yourself).

I found the hotel from Rick Steves' tour book. I emailed the hotel a couple of times before I booked. Each time I got very prompt response from Michaela and/or Giocomo, who run the hotel (also named in Steves' book). My wife and I chatted with Michaela a couple of times and also had some brief chatting with several other staff. All are very nice people.

“Good Value, Good Location”

This hotel is a great location - just a few blocks from the Piazzale Roma, and right across the river from the train station - you will be coming into Venice through one of these places. Park at the Tronchetto and take the people mover to the Piazzale Roma, then walk to the hotel. This hotel is down a quiet street, but only about a block off the Grand Canal. The accommodations are pretty modest - not alot to rave about, but a very reasonable price for the location. I didn't think we'd be able to stay inside the city for a decent price. There was no elevator, so you had to take your luggage up a narrow flight of stairs, but it wasn't bad. It's been a couple months, so I don't remember the breakfast, but I think it was decent - a typical continental. The wi-fi wasn't working the first night, but did the second. The older gentleman that checked us in was very pleasant, but didn't speak English very well. The nice lady there did. I would likely stay here again given the price and location, unless I have plenty of money and am willing to splurge on a higher-end place.

“Average hotel in good location.”

The hotel is very well located for both the Piazzale Roma bus station and the rail station.
From Marco Polo Airport the ATVO direct bus service that costs 5 euros, and takes 20 minutes to Piazzale Roma. Tickets can be purchased in the arrivals hall and validated at the yellow box next to the ATVO stop that is located directly outside of the arrivals hall.
From Piazzale Roma do not cross the large bridge over the Grande Canal but the smaller green bridge to the side. Walk for a few minutes with the Grande Canal on your left crossing small waterways, but do not go as far as the Ponte Degli Scalzi bridge over the Grande Canal near the train staion.
The hotel is located behind the church to your right and you could easily walk past the doorway as it is poorly signposted externally with only a small "ALBERGO" visible on a low side panel.
Our room was very small with only about 30 centimetres passage between end of bed and bathroom wall, but a plus point was that there was a new modern shower installed.
As is quite common in Italy there is no tea making facility within the room, but there is a price list available for beverages from the hotel. However, when we asked for coffee after arriving we were told that there was no one in the kitchen.
Except for muesli and yoghurt the breakfast was complete "stodge", and this was probably the worst breakfast I have ever had in a hotel. Also there are not really enough breakfast tables for the number of rooms.
However, the location close to bus and rail station is excellent, and for travellers who are looking for a clean basic hotel at not too steep a cost this can be a reasonable choice.

Room Tip: Choose first floor room as there is no lift.

“Close Proximity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

This hotel was typical of what you find in central Venice. Most buildings have decay and/or peeling of paint. Must remember they are on an island (moisture) and most of the buildings are really old!
The prices are not cheap, Marin was in the middle as far as price. Our room was adequate and large for european standards. The bathroom was larger than our ships bathroom! A continental breakfast was included in our price. This hotel is not to far from the bus station and train station. It is also not far from the Port of Venice for cruises. We did walk to the hotel from the port, took the people mover and went over two bridges. We are in Venice though and its either walking or water taxis!! We were close to the public water taxis line that takes you all around the island as well as to several islands close by. Like Murano and Burano. The owner was there when we arrived (early) she let us check in! Not required or the norm! Thanks to her! If you want cheaper and newer hotels go to Padua or Mestre. We chose center of Venice to be closer to the sights and we had 3 pieces of large luggage with a young child. We checked out at 10:30 am (11:00 is norm) and kept they kept our luggage until we left Venice at 7:30 pm that night!!

Room Tip: Try to get the first floor. No elevator!
