Stayed at The Royal San Marco a few weeks ago. We arrived in Venice and walked to San Marco Square from the ferry dock. Not far, very convenient. We had a hard time finding the hotel, the address is useless because we walked up and down the street forever, couldn't find it. We walked the Information Booth only to find it closed at 3:30 and it was 3:45!
Went back to the location where we thought the hotel should be and I asked a waiter if he knew where the Royal San Marco Hotel was? He was very helpful, pointed us to a narrow, long dark alley, told us to follow this alley to the end, turn right, go over a bridge and we would see the hotel. We did, Thank Heavens.
We were a party of five, staying on different floors in the hotel. Our room was, I believe, 204.
The room was okay, nothing special. The price (over $200.00 Canadian per night) of the room indicated that it would be special so we were a little disappointed. The bathroom was dated and not nice at all- mildew in the grout. Yuck.
One of the other couples had a room on the first floor. Same price as our room and it was fabulous. Roomier and an updated, Very clean bathroom. Hmm...
The location is fabulous, though and there is a very decent breakfast served in the morning. This is an extra cost, but probably similar to any of the neighbouring restaurants.
I would recommend this hotel, but specify that you want an updated room.
