I stayed at Hotel Ala with my mother and husband in September 2011. After much research, we decided on Hotel Ala for location, price and based on other reviews. We were happy with our choice. The rooms are small and a little dark, but we were not in Venice to be inside a hotel room! The location is ideal as you can either walk (15 minutes) or take the local water taxi (vaporetto) to Piazza Saint Marco. If you're looking for a cheaper option than taking a private water taxi, you can take the public water taxi from the main train station to the hotel. The hotel is just 50 metres from the Santa Maria Del Giglio stop. Although the public transport is about a third of the price of a private water taxi, the public transport can get pretty crowded!

We loved exploring Venice and this Hotel Ala was in a convenient place for our frequent walks around the canals. It is in a direct line, along an ally, to a water taxi stop so arriving and departing was easy. Our room opened out to a canal so we could look down to see gondolas glide past with accordian players and singers on board! What a wonderful welcome to Italy!

The staff were frendly and breakfast in the dining room was pretty good too!

my stay at the Hotel Ala was a special part of my holiday ,i found the staff very polite and kind and helpful,the room was beautiful and comfortable,breakfast was lovely with so much choice. location was perfect central and near to everything. i thoughly enjoyed my stay ,thank you

You go into your hotel room and open the window. Often you see another building. But below my room at Hotel Ala, the gondolas were going by. Thus began the magic that is Venice. The hotel is centrally located, the public areas comfortable with a homelike, intimate feeling. The service excellent and the breakfast is the finest I'd enjoyed in any European hotel. I highly recommend Hotel Ala
