“excellent location”

Canaletto hotel is situated close to the most important sightseeings. I would never think of taking vaporeto in order to go to the other side of town. You could go everywhere on foot. Close to railway station, Rialto bridge and S. Marco. A quiet, very clean hotel, with a touch of romance inside the rooms. It is totally understood that not all the rooms haven't got nice view. Good breakfast buffet, though I would prefer orange juice. Lack of knowledge of english language from the girls who served breakfast and cleaned the rooms is not a good point. I had to learn Italian!!! Sth I did not appreciate Anyway it was a pleasant stay. Effie Spyros Irene Yiannis Athens Greece 18/01/2012.

“Quiet corner”

This hotel is tucked away in a little courtyard, which can be tricky to find on arrival, but is a welcome respite from the crowds on the main thoroughfares. We arrived at night by the ferry and followed the hotels instruction to ask a waiter how to get to the hotel - which was successful on the first attempt! The room was a good size (european standard), but a little dark and although you could look down to the street from the window there wasn't any outlook. The upside of this was that it was very quiet, with just the occasion noise of a boat coming into the nearby canal. The room itself was old fashioned in style but attractive and while my partner liked the bed, I found it a little hard. The staff were helpful and carried my heavy bag up the stairs for me, which I appreciated. The breakfast offered was good and you could sit out in front of the hotel in the afternoon sun. There were several good restaurants literally around the corner and it was an easy walk to the main canal. We'd stay here again.

“Really lovely.”

This hotel is really good. It's located right between St Marks Square and Rialto (3 minutes walking, once you know which alleyways to take).

The room could probably use with an update, but it still had true Italian character. Bathroom was spacious and clean. One downside was that our TV didn't work properly (it didn't seem to have digital activated, even though it said it was available, so we only had 3 blurry channels available), but you're in Venice to see Venice, not watch TV so it wasn't a problem.

Breakfast was good: the usual breads, pastries, cold meats, cheese, cereals; but was still very good.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to those who want a nice, affordable and central hotel.

“Needs a serious revamp”

The Hotel Canaletto may be one of the cheapest, it is also one of the most run-down. The room I was given featured a bad smell of still waters and some walls had marks of decay. Furniture and equipment needed also to be renewed. Breakfast was good, including the service of hot beverages (coffee, tea, hot chocolate).

Dear Guest,

we thank you for the feedback you had written and at the same time we regret to learn that your stay at Hotel Canaletto was not up to your standard.

When attending at the check-in procedures we always tell our guests that in case of any problem, drawback or mishap they can inform us simply by making a phone call to the reception desk. In this case we have the chance to check out the situation, find out what the problem is and try to solve it.

If only we had known it we would have made all necessary efforts to make you feel at ease and comfortable!

As far as regards the smell of still waters you had mentioned we would like to remind you that in that period the water tide may be the lowest in the whole year: we would have solved the problem in half a minute by emptying the siphon and refilling it with water.

Actually we received a lot of compliments by our guests regarding the damask tapestry, it seems they really appreciated it. Anyhow if a guest does not like the room he has been given we try our best to comply with his request and consequently change the room. Furniture are in the typical 18th century Venetian style and are constantly renewed.

Lastly we’re happy to learn that you were satisfied with the continental buffet breakfast you were offered.

We appreciated the fact that you spent a part of your time to review our hotel: your comment will help us to improve!

Best regards

“I do love Hotel Canaletto”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

In regards to Venice, you cannot get a better location than Hotel Canaletto (unless you're a millionaire maybe). It is smack bang in the middle of Piazza San Marco and the Rialto. Though I do suggest arriving in the day time because Venice is hard enough to navigate, let alone in the dark. Hotel Canaletto can be tricky to find, but once you've found it, you wont lose it. The hotel staff provide great instructions.

This was my second stay at Hotel Canaletto, I stayed previously with my family in Sept 2004. I loved it the first time and had to go back. I took my boyfriend this time and he loved it as well.

The decor is so nice, the rooms I've stayed in all a nice size and the furniture very comfortable.

I preferred having a room at the front of the hotel, I liked havign a view of the street, this time I only had a view of another building right next door.

Beware of heavy bags because there is no elevator - but it isnt impossible.

Also, there may be a little bit of a smell sometimes, but that's Venice, I dont think you can escape it with the dampness all over the city, but it was worse when I stayed in Winter rather than the time I stayed in Autumn.

If I return to Venice again, I'd return to Canaletto again. There is also a restaurant around the corner I adored, Marco Polo I think, wanted to go there for dinner every night!

Hope this helps you :)

We would like to thank our Guests for choosing our hotel for their stay in Venice and for writing about their experience with us; we appreciated both the positive feedbacks and the negative ones - the latter very few indeed – as we are sure that through that we can improve where we are defective and make our Guests’ stay even more pleasant and satisfactory.
With regard to this we are glad to inform all of you that in these days we could find a definitive solution to a problem that some of our Guests pointed out and that has been annoying us for some time. After long and troublesome fieldwork we’ve been able to locate the cause of the bad smell that sometimes filled the air in the left-luggage office at the ground floor: it was caused by underground works carried on in a public area by a private company and ordered by the city government. Some workers have inadvertently clogged a pipe of the hotel sewage system; besides that the bad smell was also due to rising and decreasing of the sea tides.
In an attempt to clear ourselves we can assure our Guests that we strove to solve the problem at once and tried not to affect their stay. Almost on the brink of frustration as we couldn’t find where the problem was, eventually we succeeded.
We apologize once more to all those Guests who have met with the drawback and, certain to win your understanding, we look forward to meeting you again at Hotel Canaletto.
