I stayed at Hotel Campiello in Venice, Italy for two nights before boarding a cruise. I stayed here because of Rick Steves's suggestion.

I really liked the Hotel Campiello. The location is terrific. It is about three alleys east of the Palace of the Doges and about 50 meters from the Grand Canal and the vaporetto stops.

I had a room with a chandelier. The room was very small and I had to unpack everything and stow the suitcase. The bed was nice and comfortable. The bathroom is a sight to behold. There is a bidet. The shower had multiple sprays including sprays for the feet. The first time I turned on the shower I almost flooded the bathroom.

The staff is most helpful. They made dinner reservation for me and suggested a terrific wine merchant.

Breakfast was included and quite good. I was able to get two cappuccino every morning.

I recommend Hotel Campiello.

A bit hard to find at first (particularly if arriving at night) but a really good value. We stayed in during prime season and the hotel did not feel crowded at all. It was very quite at night. The staff wasn't particularly friendly but they were efficient. Our room was comfortable and clean.
The location is incredible. San Marco square is about 2 minutes walking distance.

Tip - we heard that the Hotel Daniele is gorgeous and eating breakfast from the top floor restaurant is not to be missed....the view was gorgeous and the hotel is so so beautiful. BUT we went thinking "how expensive could breakfast possibly be???".... we paid 130 euros!!!!

This hotel was about a 2 minute walk from the S.Zaccaria vaporetto stop and a very short walk from Piazza San Marco as well as all the other sights nearby. Good breakfast, 1 hour free wifi, clean and with helpful English speaking staff. Would definitely stay there again. The rates were also very reasonable since we were there in the offseason (they double or triple in the high season). Overall, the hotel left a good impression and would readily recommend it as place to stay for one or more nights.
