“Villa Tiziana”

Went for a short break to Venice with family. Lido out of season but this was nice as it was relatively quiet compared to the easily accessible Venice. Hotel was OK, my room had a smell of dampness about it (yes, I know it is Venice and there is alot of water around but this wasn't the cause!). Breakfast basic, fruit salad out of a tin in syrup, not fresh. About 15 minute walk to water bus to venice or a bus stop is very near the hotel which will take you to the water bus stop.

“A Mediocre Stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2008

If you have any desire to sleep past 7:00 in the morning, don't stay here! The maids are rudely loud yelling and cleaning so early. But truly, that was our biggest complaint. The front desk staff was nice and helpful and the rooms were small but clean and fairly comfortable. We got moving too late for breakfast, so I have no idea how it was. Overall, our experience was pretty average.

  • Liked — Helpful, English-speaking front desk staff.
  • Disliked — Loud, rude maids cleaning early in the morning.

“A Pleasant Hotel with a Homely Feel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2008

I attended a conference in June 2008 that was held at the Lido Cinema (the congress centre on Lido island of Venice), and selected this hotel because of its proximity – it only takes about 5 minutes to walk from the hotel to the congress centre. To my mind, the second nearest hotel to the congress centre is the Westin, which was way beyond my budget. I did read the other reviews before staying at the Tiziana, which I must say caused a bit more alarm than reality. The room that I stayed in was clean, there was air-conditioning, and the bathroom appeared to be newly renovated. There was no internet access though, not even at the lobby, so I had to rely on the internet access provided during the congress. Breakfast was Continental buffet style, consisting of some pasteries, cereal and bread – there were no eggs, fried, bacon or sausages – which I could see caused disappointment to some diners. Coming back to the issue of location, one should be made aware that the hotel is on the island of Lido, and the main attractions of Venice are on Venice island, which takes about half an hour to reach by ferry. That is not to say that staying on Lido island is without merit – other than the fact that the congress centre is located here (which is also the venue for the Venice Film Festival), people from the mainland come over Lido island during the weekends to enjoy the beach, and the public beach takes half an hour by foot to reach from the Tiziana hotel. Some reviewers have complained that the hotel may be a bit difficult to locate, and I would tend to concur with this observation. So, here is how I suggest you get to the hotel: when at Venice airport, buy the Venice card which includes Alilaguna ferry rides. Take the one-hour Alilaguna ferry ride from the airport to Lido island. When you reach the SME ferry stop on Lido island, take a taxi to the hotel, which is only about a 5 minute drive away, and which should cost around Euro $10. The hotel is located on a side road that is off the main road that the bus travels, which explains why the hotel may be a bit difficult to locate for the uninitiated. Once you become more familiar with the place, you can easily take the bus to and fro the ferry stop, and there are a couple of ferries from Lido island that go to the main island (where you can visit St. Mark’s place etc.). Finally, to the question of whether I would stay at this hotel again – yes, the hotel is a pleasant place to stay with a homely, laid-back feel, and the surrounding area appears to be crime-free. I would add a caveat, and that is, I would stay here again if there I was attending a congress here. On the other hand, if I were in Venice to visit the attractions, I would instead stay on the main island.

  • Liked — It was near the congress centre, yet cheaper, compared to the other 5-star hotels nearby
  • Disliked — No internet connection

“False Advertising”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2008

This should not be advertised as a 3 star hotel, it is better described as a modest B&B.They also say there 5 min from the boat but it takes over 10 min. They boast 'private beach upon request'. When we asked about this we were told there is a beach down the road, when we asked about the private beach,
the rude manager simply pointed in the general direction and told us 'It is too expensive, 150 euro. They also advertise satilite tv, none of which is in english.

The rooms are tiny, (there was less than a foot around the bed)Thankfully we were able to change from the original tiny double room we were given to a slightly better twin room after my partner requested, as soon as we seen it. also the walls must be made of paper as you can here when someone in the ajoining rooms uses the bathroom...

We had to ask for the remote for the air conditioner, and extra pillows (on which we got one). In general the room were equiped poorly but clean. I would not recomend this 'hotel'

  • Liked — the island of Lido is lovely, will definitely return, but will stay somewhere else
  • Disliked — the size of the rooms and the service

“Worst place on the Lido”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2007

The check-in clerk was rude. There was mold growing on the wall around the windows. There were three boxes of shower caps in bathroom, but all three were empty! When breakfast was served the cappuchino was so watered down, I asked for another. They charged me 5 euro for the pleasure. Still watered down. The manager that checked us out was a bit nicer then his clerk from the afternoon before. I will never stay there again. What a rip-off.

  • Liked — the manager was nicer then his clerk
  • Disliked — All the mold in the bedroom.
