“Cheap stay in Venice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011 via mobile

This 2 star hotel is very close to public transport (main train station & waterbuses) and is near the well-known Jewish Ghetto area, a quieter, more vibrant area than the pricey San Marco region. Our main gripes about this hotel would be the bugs (vinegar flies) at breakfast time and the showers (we had the shared bathroom option). Considering Venice is surrounded by water, very little of it came out of our shower! Overall, we weren't expecting the Ritz so we found it ok. The rooms were cleaned and we had fresh towels every day, the staff were also polite. The simple fact is Venice is €€€€!!!

“You get what you pay for”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

This is a ** star hotel. So you get:
- classic Italian plumbing (no water if your neighbour is showering)
- a room barely big enough for the bed
- no English channels on TV
but you also get
- a convenient location
- pleasant staff
- cleanliness
So go for it. I did and I was happy.

“Poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Hotel is located near the train station and can be easily located. However, they do not have a lift in the hotel and we had to carry our luggage two floors up without the help of the hotel staff. The staircase is quite narrow and steep. Room is very small for three people and one of the beds is foldable bed with a thin mattress. Breakfast place is small for the number of hotel guests they accomodate, hence guests would need to squeeze to have their breakfast or even queue to wait for their turn to be sitted. The breakfast is very limited. The female hotel staff is not friendly when we asked a question and were taken aback by the hostile response when she provided us. Thankfully, not all of the hotel staff are the same as some of them are more willing to help us out in our enquiries about the public transport to the airport.
Overall this hotel is ok with it's good points of being located near the train station, free wifi and located near the river taxi stations.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Florida. Overall it was a good experience. We were looking for an inexpensive hotel, which is hard to find in Venice. The Hotel Florida is 1 alley away from the train station, and for us was a great location. We didn't have to drag our luggage too far and the vaparettos and water taxis stop a 1/2 block away. The area is fairly congested though. The hotel is in an old building, no elevator for luggage. So getting our bags up and down those narrow stairs was a bit of a work out, but we'd expected that. The front desk is manned 24 hours which is great. The free wi fi worked well on the 2nd floor which we all appreciated. We were a group of 8, 2 rooms of 3 and 1 double. The rooms are a bit small, but clean and the bathrooms I saw had been re-tiled recently. They had nice showers and plenty of hot water. It was HOT in Sept but the a/c worked so we left the windows closed. Not much of a view on the back side of the hotel, but that was OK. The breakfast room is really tiny, and though it was included in the cost of the room, we only had breakfast there once. (Though we did stop there a couple of afternoons an buy a cold beer.)The coffee was pretty terrible and breakfast was just a roll & yogurt. We ended up going around the corner to Restaurant Brek for cappuchino & fresh crossants most mornings. The have a crossant with sprinkles on it that is filled with Nutella...mmmm!
The lady at the front desk was helpful getting us an early taxi the morning we departed. We had to be at the airport by 6 am. We wanted a water taxi but couldn't get anyone to agree to pick us up at 5:30 am. So we ended up with a van. Though the driver had an arrangement with someone who works at the train station. He drove over in this little electric buggy and pick up all our luggage. Then we followed him through a back gate behind the train station to where the taxi waited for us, so we didn't have to drag out luggage up over the bridge into the taxi parking lot. It was pricey, but actually worth it.

“Near train station, inexpensive, clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

I stayed in the Hotel Florida with friends in June 2011. We got the room shortly before our travel, but the price was still good.

The hotel is located on a tiny side-street or alley very close to the train station and the parking lot. It's perfect if you're arriving late or departing early by train or car. It's also an easy walk to a big shopping street with lots of restaurants and cafes, many of which are open late. One plus is that the hotel is near the start of the vaporetto (water bus) route which goes down the Grand Canal. It's best to try to catch the vaporetto at the first stop because you're more likely to be able to get a seat and enjoy the ride. (It gets very crowded.)

We had a room on the third floor. It was quiet and rather small. Nothing special, but also no problems.

Breakfast was included but was minimal- we preferred to eat out in one of the nearby cafes.

I'd recommend this hotel for travelers on a budget or those who want to be near the train station.
