“Excellent for a city break”

The hotel was small but the room was a good size- making it perfect for a city break. Breakfast was provided in a buffet style european breakfast room- the food was great. The hotel was easily findable from the nearest canal taxi stop and was a 5-10 minute leisurely walk from St Mark's Basilica and Square. Overall an excellent base for a 3 day trip to the city. I had little contact with the staff over such a short trip but the room was cleaned everyday and the cleaners seemed efficient. The staff on the desk in the reception were very pleased to help and gave concise directions in excellently spoken english!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors have a better view I would suggest because of how the alleys are construc...

“Where Italians stay”

Hotel Gorizia was very pleasant. It's filled mostly with italians and French people on holidays, but the staff were very friendly, breakfast was fine, and it was clean. The location couldn't be better. Stay in the Hilton if u want American style treatment, but in Venice I think it was really good.

“Worth what you pay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

This hotel is in an excellent location, just off San Marco square. The staff are very friendly and as helpful as you will get in Italy. The breakfast here is pretty average, standard Italian dry bread, cheese and ham. We had a problem with receiving wifi in our room on the first night (we stayed 2 nights) and when I went to reception to complain, I was met with the hands in the air "I know nothing" blank stare. Despite this, the rooms are warm (in October) if a little dated. There is a good range of various language TV channels, a decent mini bar, and good room service. There is no bar in this hotel, however, the staff helpfulness made up for this.

The restaurant manager (lady) and breakfast waitress deserve special mention for their assistance. For value, stay here. If you want a high standard of accomodation and food, look elsewhere.

“Below average, not worth 3-star”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

This hotel came up as the cheapest in the list and being 3-star, I thought it should be alright. Its nearest boat station is called Rialto and most tourist attractions are within walking distance; Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge.

The room is spacious. I thought the small TV is placed a bit too high. Everything looked and felt antique. The shower is divided from the rest of the bathroom with two panes; which I believe the purpose of the panes is to prevent the water from pouring over the toilet bowl and the basin. Nevertheless, it doesn’t prevent the water from covering the whole bathroom floor.

The hair dryer connector fell off easily. The room’s DOOR KNOB can be easily unscrewed. It didn’t worry my wife and me too much because the room we were in is near the reception and we didn’t place any valuable stuff in the room when we were out. One of the windows almost fell off when opened as the top bit was not connected. We decided to keep it close anyway since it’s not really that hot and we had other windows to use.

Breakfast was alright. Coffee was weird. Staffs were OK. On our final day, we left our luggage at the reception. When we went back to collect our luggage, we just took it with us and the receptionist didn’t even care to check. Think twice before leaving your luggage with them.

As for WiFi, we did manage to scan and connect to HotelGorizia. It didn’t’ require any password, so we never asked the hotel if they offer any free WiFi.

It’s rated as 3-star but I think it’s only worth 1-star. No WiFi, unsecure room, broken equipment, smelly corridor, below average breakfast and no map. I know most people buy Venice map but I thought map should be free.

“no heat”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We arrived in Venice on October 15 and stayed at this hotel for two nights. The
temperatures were in the 40's (f) both nights but did warm up to the high 50's during the day. If you sat in the sun it was merely comfortable. Now for the hotel---no heat. We asked over and over could we please have heat . The response was NO cannot turn on the heat and then expect the the patrons to ask for air the following week. Can you believe! We needed to go across the street to another hotel to warm up. Their heat was on. The breakfast room is tight. You cannot leave your seat unless your neightbor behind you gets up for coffee or to leave their seat. Tight corridors, for sure. For the outrageous fee for this hotel-----no heat and uncomfortably small---------look elsewhere. diane

Room Tip: look elsewhere
