We stayed three nights at Quattro Fontane and loved it. This is not the Holiday Inn so if you want to get exactly what you expect in your hotel wherever you go l this may not be for you. As other reviewers have described it is one of a kind. Amazing collections of folk art and even an indigenous Australian painting hanging on one landing. The restaurant is fine, as is the bar, though expensive. But you must have at least one drink sitting in the leafy and lovely garden with the fountains tinkling. All the staff are courteous and charming. Breakfast is excellent. Although there is no lift, there is a porter. The setting is lovely, a large beautiful garden with flowers, old trees and lots of little nooks to sit in. It was cool in the evening when we were there but it must be lovely on summer nights.
The room had nice toiletries and a little balcony. The Wi-Fi was free the whole time and worked well. Tiled floors, small but comfortable beds. Immaculate.
Location and transport - the hotel is on the Lido. We did our research and purchased a 72 hour pass from Allilaguna ferries. This is particularly good value if you are staying on the Lido. This ticket got us transfers to and from the airport- a great scenic trip in both directions. It also got us to and from the main part of Venice- as many times as we wanted. And to the lovely island of Murano. I think we could have gone to other islands as well but we didn’t have time. When you arrive at the Lido with your baggage it is a good idea to get a cab. This will cost you about 11 Euro for a five minute ride. To walk is about 15 minutes. The walk is pleasant and flat. There is also a frequent local bus.
Restaurants- while the hotel restaurant is lovely, nice food and charming service it is expensive so we would suggest you walk down to the shopping/ cafes precinct near the main pier. There is plenty of choice here and the walk back will help you walk off some of the delicious calories! There is a closer restaurant, just minutes from Quattro Fontane, called Valentino I think. This food is lovely and again the service charming but is expensive.
I will save my pennies to go back to Venice and would not hesitate to stay at Quattro Fontane again.
