We were really prepared to love the Metropole. We had reserved 2 rooms, had requested them to be connecting as we were traveling with our 17 yr old grand daughter. We got non-connecting rooms and non-adjacent on the first floor with no view. The rooms were shabby. the wall paper in my g-daughter's room was torn in places. The night noise was more than annoying. For some reason from my gdaughter's room you could hear bathroom noises from other rooms .
In our room, the bathroom floor was filthy and when I had used a bath towel, noticed too late that a blood stain had not fully been removed when the towel had been washed. Even a 2 star hotel knows when to discard used old towels.

We recently spent four nights in this extremely well run and centrally located hotel. Room 401 has to the one to get as it has a rooftop balcony with views over the lagoon although in March it was a bit chilly to sit out.

The hotel is full of antiques which I found a bit overbearing but the facilities were first class and the breakfast buffet could keep you going all day.

We went on a package which included a water taxi from Marco Polo Airport to the door of the hotel and back, I'm pleased this was included as a familiar sight in Venice is tourists pulling suitcases on wheels trying to follow a little map to their hotel!

We stayed here for a couple of nights in the middle of a three month tour of Italy and some of Europe. After the disappointments of a few much more expensive hotels this was a joy. The room was excellent with a lovely view over one of the canals down into the Grand canal and the staff were superb - friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed relaxing in the garden area and late at night in the bar. The food is the restaurant worthy of its reputation and the service delivered by friendly staff. The location is superb. All in all we would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I spent 7 or 8 nights at the Metropole over Christmas 2008. We were absolutely delighted with our room, and the accomodation in the hotel. We found the staff consistently helpful when asked. There restaurant recommendations (from someplace very fancy for Christmas eve and Christmas day dinner....to a very simply neighborhood place to get some fresh fish) were right on the mark. I have one complaint, and one complaint only... and that was during a period when Venice was expected much rain and flooding, when we needed an umbrella we had to purchase one from the hotel -- that was surprising to us from a hotel of this caliber. Putting that aside, we will likely return to the Metropole for our next stay in Venice. Oh - almost forgot... internet connections only in the lobby.
