We stayed at the Metropole 25 years ago on our honeymoon - promising to return for our 25th wedding anniversary. We are so glad made this decision. We tried to book our original room, but the hotel could not work out which it was, but when they heard why, they upgraded us to a room with a lagoon view and balcony - as well serving us "champagne" and silver almonds on arrival. The hotel is outstandingly decorated, we felt it was like walking into a romantic by-gone age, so right for our honeymoon and 25 years later for our wedding anniversary.
The hotel is quite pricey - as we are both now retired (early, I quickly add) we, unfortunately, agreed that we could not afford to eat in the MET restaurant, but the menu looked delicious and the aroma from the kitchen was wonderful. Just a little hint - do not be fooled into thinking that the water and nuts are complimentary - they are not!
Breakfast is a real feast - cereals, bowls of fruit, yogurts, little puddings (Tirimisu for breakfast WOW!), croissants, pastries, cakes, breads, cooked meat selection, cheese selection, salad - I could go on! I know I ate too much, but what a wonderful start to the day.
We were a bit naughty - we knew there were no tea/coffee making facilities, so we took our own, so useful for that early morning drink before breakfast.
We can not fault the service at all - the room was attended to continually during the day, exceptionally clean, and the staff were friendly, helpful and informative.
We just want to say thankyou to the staff at the Metropole for helping us to make our "2nd honeymoon" in Venice so wonderful.
