On arrival in Venice, La Locanda Di Orsaria is a 2 minute walk from the train station on the first street along the canal that you come to. No- it doesn't have canal views, it's not in amongst the finest buildings of venice or in the most appealing of areas- however, within half an hour or so of exploring venice you will be so grateful that you are not amongst the hoards hauling their baggage down the narrow maze of side streets, over steps, cobbles and bridges, searching for an impossible to find hotel! Instead, the hotel is half a minute from the Vaporetti stop, allowing you to hop on and be straight in the throng of things whithin 10 or so minutes and eliminating worries about finding your hotel again late at night after dinner and drinks.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, holding my bags for me (in the breakfast room - not ideal security-wise I guess but it is straight off the reception area). A map and directions to the restaurant I had booked and various key sites, were offered, as well as the option of access to my room as soon as it was ready (about 11AM) if I wanted.
Room 52 was on the Ground floor, quite close to reception (no noise disturbance at all and no through traffic). The window looked out onto a yard (not the best view in the world - don't come here if views are what you're after!). For 65 Euros the room was really very good- of ample size, with a comfy double bed (even though I had only booked a single), tasteful decor and very clean. Facilities wise, no coffee making facility but a mini bar (water 2 Euro, small bottle Prosecco 7 Euro), flatscreen telly, shower en-suite and wired in hairdryer (bring your own if you want to dry any more than a fringe!). Heating/ aircon is suppiled from a remote controlled unit, accurate to the degree, which really was fantastic - yes when in use it emitted a low hum - but with none of the usual problems of room temperature not meeting ones personal preference. The shower was powerful and with ample hot water (even for me with a preference for a burning hot shower!)
After a really good nights sleep, the breakfast is very good for the price point. I was presented with a hot drink of my choice (don't expect English tea) and a basket containing 2 brioche rolls, 2 croissants and a large jam biscuit, more than enough to satisfy even the largest appetite. A range of jams, honey and nutella on the table - standard catering packets. A help yourself breakfast bar was also available with salami and another rather nasty processed sliced meat, cereals, fruit juice, fresh and tinned fruits, yoghurts, processed cheeses etc etc. Not the most grandeous or sophisticated breakfast in the world but very generous and more than the norm for the price bracket.
Again, the hotel were more than happy to hold my bags for me for as long in the day as was neccessary.
I will certainly be returning to Venice as soon as possible and again be staying at La Locanda di Orsaria.
