“Villa Stella: Venice on a Budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

This past summer, my best friend and I did an 'Around the World in 30 days' type extravaganza. Venice was a must see! However, hotels and resorts in Venice are far too overpriced. But we struck gold with Villa Stella, a bed&breakfast gem located on the island of Lido. The property was gorgeous, spacious and a 5 min walk to crystal blue beaches (just heavenly!) The staff was very kind and prepared breakfasts were ridiculous (as in: I get to eat all this???) The only downside was the location, as it is aways from the tourist attractions such as St. Mark's Square. No gondolas here, but still great views and la vita dolce.

Tip: Purchase a boat/bus-line combo pass upon entering Venice. This let's you travel to Lido and back without having to splurge on travel fees. Also, buy market food or do your eating in tourist centers. Lido had very few eating options and if you're a foodie like me, you'll need to seek elsewhere for variety.

“Like home, only better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We arrived at Villa Stella late after a nightmare 12-hour day of travelling on trains, boats and buses. We called ahead to let them know we would be late getting in and they were more than sympathetic and polite, which was a relief. Although getting to Lido wasn't the easiest, we were warmly surprised by how welcoming and inviting Villa Stella was. We were given tea and cake while we checked in and given our choice of two rooms. The room was a bit old-fashioned but it was very comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom were both good sizes. We quickly settled in and felt at-home.

Breakfast was exquisite! It was by far the best breakfast we had during our 4-week stay in Europe. Hard-boiled eggs, yogurt (and natural, home-made yogurt too!), fruit salad, tomatoes and mozza, pastries, cereal, granola, homemade goodies... delicious coffee. Perfection. The next night we were again welcomed with tea and goodies.

Although Lido might seem a bit far (it did for us the first night), we quickly appreciated the beauty of Lido. A beautiful beach is just a few minutes down the road from Villa Stella, there are great places to shop and eat, and it's nice to get out of the heart of Venice at night and relax. Villa Stella is probably one of the best places we stayed during our time in Europe and I highly recommend it! Especially great for couples -- quiet, romantic, friendly, warm...

“Beautiful clean rooms, great staff and location - great price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Stayed here back in September, prior to boarding a cruise. Location is great, being close enough to get to the main attractions of Venice, but away from all the hussle and bussle. Very close to the beach too and with a few good restaurants in the area.
Moving on to the property and the staff, both were delightful. The room we had was amazing, with a mezzanine level accessed by a spiral staircase - although we were only two the room could have comfortably slept four! Very clean and cosy, with a brand new en suite bathroom. The staff were all lovely - very helpful and welcoming, and I happened to mention when booking that it was my girlfriend's birthday, and we were greeted by a beautiful plant and card in the room when we arrived. This was a really lovely gesture. The plant travelled with us on the cruise and back to the UK.
Breakfast in the morning was also very good. In short - a wonderful place at a bargain price. Highly recommended and we will be returning.

“"A friendly and helpful hotel"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We chose VIlla Stella for a Silver Wedding Anniversary trip to Venice - our first visit to the city. It's a small, friendly hotel a fifteen minute walk - or a five minute bus hop- to the boat station. From there it's a rather nice five minute lagoon voyage to St Mark's Square. They knew it was our anniversary so, perhaps for this reason, we got the (I think) only room with a balcony, despite not having asked for it. They kindly left orchid corsages on our bed too which was a nice touch. There is tea and coffee available in the room and there is a very good breakfast on offer every morning: muesli, yoghurt, fresh fruit, croissants, cheese, ham and home made pastries. All served in their garden. I appreciated the choice of teas, made in a mug just like at home. The only slight downside was the main road which is noisy during the day up until about 11pm. And the traffic starts again at about 6 a.m. We come from the middle of nowhere in the countryside so it took a couple of days to get used to this but, even I - a light sleeper - managed enough sleep as the road quietens down enough to get ample zzzzzs. All in all it's a very good Venice base - and the lido itself provides a sometimes welcome contrast to Venice itself (which is wonderful but relentlessly overwhelming!)

“Highly Recommend Villa Stella in Venice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

I have stayed at Villa Stella many times (5+), as it quickly became my number one choice accommodation in Venice (for business and pleasure alike). Located on the beautiful and elegant island, Lido (where the film festival, conferences, nice beaches and great seafood restaurants are located), Villa Stella allows you to escape the chaos of Venice for some excellent comfort, service, elegant rooms, and fantastic breakfast. With a boat/bus pass, it is very easy to get back and forth around Venice, with boats arriving at the Lido port every couple minutes and the ride being only 15 minutes to Piazza San Marco. I highly recommend Villa Stella as one of the best places to stay while on vacation in a city that is a fantasy!

Room Tip: All the rooms I have stayed in have been great.
