“GREAT LOCATION”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Good location behind San Marco Square. Front desk polite and helpful. Triple room very tiny and had to ask for soap and tissues but did get them both. Breakfast could be better.
Venice very crowded in summer. Still love this city!!
Please don't visit Claudia's shop around the hotel area. She rudely told us to leave her shop as we were not going to buy there and we were wasting her time!

Room Tip: request a view but think you must pay big for it.

“DEFINETLY not worth the price.”

I stayed here with my mom and grandma in one of the family rooms. I have no idea where the professional pictures on their website were taken, but it could not have been here. The rooms are so so tiny, there's barely any room for your things. The staff isn't the most friendly. Even when you ask a simple question, they automatically take the defense. Everytime I asked for the Wifi login and pass, I got such an attitude I was afraid to go back to get a new one. (Depending on the staff member, I'd get a different login amount of time???) It was also very vague as to whether or not it was in fact free or not. No one could just simply answer questions correctly. The staff put us on the 3rd level, which was difficult for my grandma to walk up and down. When we brought this up to staff we were told it was our fault since we didn't mention she was handicapped at the time we reserved the room. The entire hotel just looks really worn out, the breakfast was nothing special. I've stayed in nicer hostels...this hotel was a rip-off.

“Good Location, Met my expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

We slept two couples in our room and it was pretty tight. Would have been more appropriate for 2 but we were on a budget and really didnt mind squeezing in. The Hotel was clean, air conditioner worked well, and breakfast was good. The hotel also provided free wifi and had nice quiet court yard with some tables perfect for a late afternoon bottle of wine.

“Good place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

My husband, brother in-law and his wife stayed at Hotel Ateneo for 2 nights. The service was good. The rooms are small but are comparable to what you would expect for a European hotel. We had air conditioning which was a ++ in the hot summer months. The location was great but Venice is so small that really anywhere would have been okay. The breakfast in the morning was good and typical of a European morning meal with deli meat, cheese, bread, pastries, cereal, fruit, juice, and coffee. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend! (We paid extra for private taxi from the airport....so worth it as they took us to the door of the hotel)

“Rip Off. Tourist scam. Stay away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

I booked the Hotel Ateneo in Venice along with the flights and other hotels and Expedia confirmed the reservation. When we got to Ateneo we were told that there are no rooms at the hotel but they have another building 10 minutes away. Ten minutes turned out to be 30 minutes and another building turned out to be another hotel Belle Arti which is located on different island. The reason we booked that hotel is because it is located right in the center of the city close to all attractions and everything else. Now we have to stay 30 minutes away from everything on another end of the town. We called ateneo and demanded to go back to Ateneo or another hotel near by . They said there was nothing available but tomorrow they will try to find something for us. Next morning we left the room and went for a walk, when we came back to Belle arti we were told that that our room is no longer available and it was given to somebody else. All of our stuff was thrown in the bags and moved to another hotel on another end of town.we never gave anyone any permission to come to our room and touch our personal stuff some of which was missing and most of which was damaged and the hotel staff felt like there was nothing wrong with that. we did not want to move again and waist another two hours of our vacation so we requested another room at that belle arti hotel but of course there were no more rooms available. there was one room at another hotel across the street named Domus Cavanis which they said is the same category hotel, but if you look at their website it said that its 1 star hotel. Fine, we just wanted it to be over. Next day i spoke to the owner but he felt no remorse and tried to blame it on another hotel. I file claim for missing items and of course i never heard from him again. The staff and management at ateneo and belle arti is absolutely the same ignorant inconsiderate unapologetic scum artists We went home next day just to find out that expedia encourages that kind of practices and doesn't mind when its customers get ripped off while on vacation.
