weren't sure what to expect in Venice, but this hotel served us well, although it is quite worn and dated. We, hysterically, "upgraded furnishing" from dated to schizophrenic, which is the general Venetion style. Would love to have seen what the non-updated rooms looked like. Tiny tiny rooms and worn carpets, but beds were crisp and bathrooms quite clean. Location was excellent with easy access to both St Mark's and short walk to Rialto. Our first time to Venice ( for a January birthday)put us in shock with the size of what constitutes a street.This hotel is in an alley the width of which you couldn't fit two trash cans but fairly easy to locate. Once off the "street", the hotel was bright and welcoming with great front desk staff. Breakfast was ample and back breakfast room was lovely, like an antique dining train car. If you want to walk the alleys and get lost, January is the time with lower rates and more competition. You can linger on the bridges and shoot pictures forever.. walk unjostled and never wait to get in anywhere. Take a short walk from this hotel to the Hard Rock off St Mark's around 5 and sit at the windows to watch the gondoliers in the "parking lot" scheme and get paid by their "manager".

The hotel has an excellent location but thats where the positives end. Even though, the hotel is a part of the Best WEstern Chain, I was exptremely disappointed. The hotel is dingy and looks more like a 2 star hotel. The wallpaper was peeling off, the air conditioning was'nt working and the hotel staff was downright rude.

We booked this hotel as addition to a flight booking we made on Easyjet so knew very little about it but kinda thought what could go wrong, it's close to San Marco and is part of a big hotel chain so should be okay. Well it was amazing - Easyjet from Gatwick to Venice plus two nights at this hotel for A$440.

Took us a little while to find it with all the winding lane-ways of Venice so be prepared for that.

Plus the breakfast was amazing. Far exceeded our expectations.

We booked the Hotel Montecarlo as part of a Delta Vacations package and were very happy with the choice. Great rate and comfortable hotel. The hotel is in a great location - 2 minutes from St. Mark's. The breakfast was great - lots of choices, great coffee, plenty of tables. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Bathroom was clean and modern. Great shower. Room decorations are dated, but charming. Would love to return.
