“Not a 3 star hotel... more like 1.5 stars”

We stayed in 3 star hotels the whole time we were in Italy and this place definitely did not measure up. It is a 1.5 star at best. The place is pretty outdated and just doesn't give you a welcomed feeling. The room appeared fairly clean but the carpet looked pretty old. I know smell is an issue throughout Venice but at times the bathroom smelled so bad we could barely stand to use it. The breakfast was average. The location is convienent to the train/bus station and it's walking distance to the main attractions. I would recommend looking for a nicer hotel for equal cost because our stay here was not inexpensive.

“Italian style and service, close to station and in town”

We chose the Gardena due to it's proximity to the bus station. Unlike many hotels in Venice, it was easy to find and only 2 small bridges from bus station (1 large from train). We arrived by cruise ship and caught the vappreto to the hotel; you can buy tickets for 6euros onboard the boats.

We had a room overlooking the canal for one night. It was large and with good windows and wasn't loud (though it was Sunday). The tv was tiny and only had local channels. The bath and shower were ok.

The receptionist was ok,but to the point and the breakfast was simple but satisfactory.

“Great location”

Stayed at the Gardena the end of August for one night before a cruise, fantastic location, ideal for train or bus, the weather was very hot so it was a blessing that we did'nt have to haul our bags over lots of bridges, just one actually. The hotel is very clean with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast was really good by continental standards and I think it deserves its three star rateing considering its practically on the Grand Canal. Staff were courtious and polite but I could'nt call them friendly but thats Italy!! Great value and would definatley recommend it.

“Bit Late but better late than never”

We stayed in the Hotel Gardena in February of this year. It was a very pleasant, bit jaded but the rooms were very clean and the linen was changed daily. It was in a brilliant position if arriving by bus or vaporetto from either airport and in a great location for getting about. As it's not as close to St Marks it's very reasonably priced and the local restaurants and bars were great - good food and not a 'rip off!' Ivan the evening concierge was very helpful and friendly and recommended some good places to eat. We had an amazing time in Venice and cannot wait to get back there. I would opt to stay in this part of the city as it's far enough away from the 'madding crowds' but everything was wonderfully accessable!

There wasn't anything wrong with this hotel, but nothing amazing!

I travelled here with my best friend in August, and had requested a twin room when booking (through jet2 holidays). We arrived at about 12 (when we were supposed to be able to check in) and were told we had a queen room, so asked for a twin - was told to come back in 2 hours (not sure why as hotel was never full). We left our luggage and went off to explore a little. Found a lovely little cafe just a few minutes walk away 'La Bauta' snack bar, the guy working there is soooo friendly! We got back to the hotel at 2, and was given the key. No help with luggage which was dissapointing as 2 young women?

The room was fine. A little smaller than the images looked but clean and everything in order. A fridge in the room was wonderful as we moved some stuff out of the minibar and put our water there. The air conditioning was very welcome as it was over 30 degree outside! Our room looked into the hotels courtyard, but also into somebodys flat - not a massive issue. It was very quiet. No noise whatsoever at night, and couldn't hear into anybody elses room as one reviewer said.

The bathroom was also clean, very small but it was Venice. The shower was powerful, but no hot water during the day? (we wanted to shower when we first arrived). Towels were changed and room made up everyday to a high standard.

Was expecting amazingly friendly staff from previous reviews - the gentleman during the day was not friendly. My friend thought he was rude, I wouldn't go so far (I'm quite laid back and bubbly!) but defo not friendly. However the chap thats on in the evening was great, chatty and happy to help; he should work the day!

The hotel were not pushy. Some hotels have deals with cafes, or trips etc they never try to sell us anything.

Breakfast was basic, I don't 'do' breakfast but would go and get a class of orange juice. My friend seemed quite happy with bread rolls and ham etc. I would have liked the TV to have had one sky chanel - like an international news station or something!?

I liked the location, much quieter, but across the canal from the vaperetto stop and piazza roma for airport transfers.

I would stay here again, but my friend wouldn't. It was fine, but not an overwhelming experience!
