we stayed just 1 night but we loved the hotel. its location is very good (in the beginning of the Grand Canal) our room was vey big even so well heated. (it was -8 celcius degree outside) breakfast was ok, same in other hotels. staff is polite and helpful. they are doing their job very well.

we'll choose Hotel Canal for our next stay in Venice.

We arrived from the airport by coach and the hotel was an easy 2 minute walk from the bus station. From the outside the hotel looks very drab and in need of a little updating, the reception area is also a bit of a mis-match area with a bit of a strange smell, but dont be put off by this because the rooms far outway both of these, we had a selection of 7 rooms between our group, all were stunning. Fabric on the walls, chandeliers and ornate furniture. We all had flat screen satelite tv's and a very reasonable and well stocked mini bar. The bathrooms probably need updating but they were very clean and adequate with hair dryers and toiletries provided. Breakfast as said in other reviews is basic but adequate, fresh croissants, bread, toast, ham, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, biscuits, tea, coffee and juice. A boiled egg would have been nice.

The location of this hotel could not be better, right by the train station and bus station, all the tourist areas are within easy walking distance and we did not use any water buses and did all our exploring on foot, half the fun is getting lost, but it is quite easy to find your way around and we covered all areas. The hotel organised a private water taxi to take us to Murano for free to look round a glass factory, we saw a very interesting demonstration. We did buy a few things but you were'nt made to feel like you had to. We then got the Vaporhetti back which cost 6.50 euro, its well worth the trip if you have a few hours to spare.

All in all I cannot recomend this hotel enough when you consider the price we paid. Venice is a fantastic place and I cannot wait to visit again.

“Great location”

If you are going to explore Venice this hotel is right for you. Most of the time we stayed outdoors, so we didn't mind of the room's quality and style. The hotel is very very old and it is based on the Canal and very close to many attractions. The room was small, descent, but a bit smelly, even we left windows wide open. It is decorated in traditional Venetian style with very old furniture which looked quite cheap, but we didn't mind. We enjoyed staying there and having a breakfast which was a bit boring, but OK.

“Great Value”

Right by the train station and the bus stops but still along the grand canal this hotel is very good value for money. Don't expect the ritz - the rooms may have seen better days but then you only there to sleep. The location is great and its easy to get lost amongst the great patisseries and restaurants around the area. With prosecco for a euro and great food all around - i loved the location. The walk to the main tourist areas is about half an hour - hour (we got lost alot) and its a beautiful ride on the vapretto and every alleyway brings something new and beautiful. Breakfast was good although there was no cheese which was dissapointing as my partener kept having huge plates of ham and i'm a veggie. But theres toast croissants and orange juice cereal fruit salad yoghurts ect.... The woman who seems to be in charge of breakfast is a bit scary demanding room number ect.. but we found that part of the fun. If you are looking for good value and a good location this is a great hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a hotel with a canal view they were the best in the hotel for not much more money! Dont...
