Albergo Verdi is an outstanding hotel (or rather, inn, if you translate literally) right in the historical heart of Padova. It’s quite a walk from/to the railway station, about 20 – 30 minutes, depending on which road you walk (I noticed for instance that from Corso Milano, there are signs guiding you to the FS station, but if you follow them you end up a little out of direction), but unlike another reviewer I found the hotel quite easily with the help of Google maps.
My room was on the 1st floor, next to the breakfast room. Surprisingly I found it rather silent (I had expected a lot of noise there) even when breakfast was being served. The only noises I heard were people walking the stairs and slamming doors (I actually found it quite difficult to close my door as well, really had to give it a good pull before it was closed). But at night it was very quiet. The hotel corridor looks very small; though the room I stayed in was very spacious. The shower rod (not the nozzle) needs to be replaced as it’s oxidised. The TV has a large number of channels, most of them Italian. The windows were equipped with heavy curtains, blocking all light. Just one more remark about the doors: one night I woke up because there was light coming into the room (I’m used to sleeping in dark rooms and I wake up with the slightest source of light). Apparently the door was opened. Didn’t slam it hard enough I suppose + the door cannot be locked from inside. Everyone could’ve walked into the room!
Unlike previous reviews, I think there’s a lot of choice for breakfast (perhaps it has changed in the meantime; I see that the previous review is dated July 2010). There are different kind of pastries (cake, croissants, etc), bread rolls, muesli bars, cornflakes, cheese, ham, fruits, about 8 different kinds of marmalade and chocolate paste… Also I found the staff very friendly and helpful! On the first night (when I checked in) I was offered home-made iced tea. All of the staff members spoke English and French very well, and I got all information I needed (about bike rental, taxi service to get to the airport, etc). On my last night I found a bottle of red wine in my room, kindly offered by the hotel.
This hotel is ideal to visit Padova and its surroundings, the beds are good quality and staff is super friendly!
