“Characterful and comfortable in centre of old town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

My husband and I were looking for a good hotel with character in the centre of Padua for a weekend away (we were supporting our local rugby team at an away game). This was exactly what we wanted. We arrived by taxi from the airport so finding the hotel was not a problem, though I noticed there were signposts to it all around town. The location in the quaint cobbled streets of the old Jewish quarter is superb for good restaurants and bars with local character, walking around the city, and for the shopping centre. We had a junior suite on the second floor overlooking the noisy bar mentioned in other reports but after a good dinner and a bottle of red wine I must confess the noise did not bother me at all. It all added to the atmosphere of the place. The room was clean, comfortable, had a big bed and a big bathroom though - as is often the case in continental hotels - the bath was not big enough for two! My only quibble was that it had a really useless hairdryer.
The reception staff spoke fluent English and were very helpful - one lady rang the rugby stadium to get tickets for us as neither of us speaks Italian.
Breakfast was perfectly satisfactory - really good coffee, fruit, yoghurt, ham, cheese, fresh bread and delicious croissants. Everything I would want to eat. I would definitely stay here again.

“Good hotel terrible location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We finally found our way to the hotel thanks to many stops and two phone calls for directions. The garage was several blocks away and since the hotel is in the center of the old town, access by car is close to impossible. In addition our rental car was damaged in the garage due to poor parking by the hotel staff.

The worst part of our stay was that we didn't get any sleep for 3 nights because of the two bars right outside the hotel and the crowds of bar patrons hanging out, talking loud until well after midnight.

If you choose to stay, insist on a room in the back of the hotel.

“very good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

We stayed for one night at this extremely well located hotel. My wife has suffered a quite serious injury in Venice and the receptionist ( a young man ) upgraded us to a superior room with larger bathroom at no extra charge
He and the other staff were always very polite helpful and well informed
I note that there have been previous comments re street noise and the breakfasts. Our room was on the street side but with windows closed there was no street noise at all and the breakfast was one of the best we received at a hotel of this standard in Italy
The room was clean but a bit tired
The location is ideal for the tourist and the local caffes and market are colourful and friendly
We would stay here again without hesitation

“Bring your earplugs... there's a cafe...”

Bring your earplugs... there's a cafe right across the street (and another around the corner) where the crowds of patrons spill out into the street making noise till 1am!! Far from the quiet street the average traveller would be anticipating!!

“In the heart of old town of Padua”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2010

This is the place to stay when you visit Padua! The family-owned cozy hotel is hidden along the narrow winding alleyways of the Jewish quarter, ghetto, of Padua's old town. The hotel is conveniently at a walking distance from the old University, most key sights, the fruit and herb markets etc. The tricky bit is to find your way there and back through the old town labyrinth - useful training for your orientation skills! There is some signposting from the main nearby streets to help though. Do not even try to get there by your own car.
Taxi from Venice airport costs ca 30 euros. My room - off the streetside - was nicely furnished with traditional style, spaceous and quiet, good bed and newly decorated beautiful bathroom in acqua colour tiles and a bide. Faint tobacco smell around the room was the only disturbing factor. Rooms on streetside not recommended because of potential noise from the nearby bar. Service was competent but not superfriendly except for some members of the staff. Breakfast not amazing but ok with some local flavor, lots of sweet pastries. Bar in the hotel also serves some pasta and snacks as well but you might want to explore plenty of tempting eating places nearby. Internet is available in the lobby, need to pay by coins. Padua seemed to have many ugly big hotels in former Eastern block style - I was happy indeed not staying in those, and will certainly return to stay in Toscanelli if sometime again in Padua.
