If you are looking for a "hotel" that is quiet and remote this is not it.
The "hotel" is located where all the action is (totally full outdoor cafes at night and on the weekends, markets all day on the weekends and some week days). If you need your windows open then you will be in the middle of the hustle and bustle day and night (till midnite). However if you close your windows it is much more quiet and if you also close the shutters it will be very quiet and peaceful but without natural light. A/C works very well.
Located on 3 floors above shops surrounding the Piazza dei Signori in the absolute center of Padova, It is a taxi ride from the train station - no more than 5 Euros and takes 5 minutes at the most. Padova is 30 minutes away form Marco Polo airport by shuttle, 1 hour by bus. Mainland Venice, once you get to the Padova train station, is 30 minutes by train and then you walk or take a ferry to the centre. ( if you do not need to stay in Venice proper whichcan be quite expensive, Padova is a great young University town with great shopping, good food and important architecture. Very central to day trips to Venice, Verona, Vicenza, Bassano, Colli Euganei etc.)
The owner, Signore Paolo, is very kind and helpful. He owns the jewelery store to the right of the "hotel" and is present only during working hours. He can understand and speak English, his lovely wife is an accomplished jewelry designer, and if she is in, speaks good English and is quite charming.
The reason I write "hotel " is because this is really a building with 6 lovely rooms. No reception, no breakfast room. When you arrive, if the jewelry shop is not open, you call the number posted on the front door and the owner will give you a code to get into the front door, once you scale the steps to the 1st floor you will find the key card for your room and let yourself in.
There is one room on the 1st floor (which for americans is really the second floor), this is great if you only want one floor of steps but it is less private than the rooms on the upper floors, people on the Piazza can look in and you feel like you must close the shutters for privacy and it can get a little claustrophobic...So, if you can handle 2 floors of steps then when you get into your room you will be very pleased. The rooms are spotless and very well kept, of course they are small this is Italy.... but they are small at the Majestic Toscanelli across the Piazza and those rooms are at least twice as much. Everything you need is there, modern not too small bathroom with bidet and hairdryer. Good closet and storage, mirrors throughout the space so two people can get ready at the same time. The beds are extremely comfortable if you like a firm bed. You only get a pillow each. A small refridgerator and, in most of the rooms, a balcony overlooking the famous still working "Orologio " ( clock tower) and the Piazza dei Signori. Fabulous!!
Breakfast is served at the "bar" downstairs to the right overlooking the Piazza. The staff here is lovely and the breakfast is European coffee or tea, one juice from a good selection and
one large Brioche (croissant, danish of your choice). If you want more or something else you simply pay for it. If you want to sit and dally over breakfast this is not the place for you, however if you ask they will give you a tray and let you bring the breakfast up to your room.
I have stayed in Padova over 12 times in the last 12 years and I have now found my new favorite place to stay. It would be helpful to know, I am not a person that requires a chat with other people at my hotel, I just want a very very central place to go go go and then come back to the room and chillax.
Television was all Italian channels when I stayed and Wifi was good for 2 of three days, then non-existant. There is no telephone in the rooms.
Excellent stay, thank you Signore Paolo, we will be back!!
