“Don't go before Christmass and (perhaps even ever)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Our stay has been in week before Christmas. A few days before our arrival the weather got totally bad. Because of the access to the hotel a called them and they told me the cable way will operate for the guests of the hotel. The weather was even bad that it did not, so we had to take the other hotel down the Cervinia. OK, fault of the weather:(
But:
When we got there during the next day, tho hotel was a kind of a ghost town. They didn't heat only a few people of personnel were there, except receptionists unable to speak English.
In our room we had 14 degrees, because the radiator worked max 4 hours per day. We have been sleeping in all possible clothes. Bet was made of metal, so it led heat and was unable to heat it. Don't mentioning impossibility to dry clothes after skiing. Owner told us the heating system is "old"........ so it was switched off for a whole day rather?

The breakfast was very simple comparing to the other hotel down in Cervinia which we had to take for the first night.

On the end of our stay they started to heat (18deg) and came nice personnel. But we really suffered there that one week before.

So to summarize:

I am not a person who is happy to criticize but I can't recommend this place. You are stacked there unable to help yourself in a piece of cold bare concrete.

We expected nice skiing and hotel wasn't important for us, but this was too much.

So, rather enjoy nice town of Cervinia and don't go Stambecco.

“Perfect location in a stunning ski area”

We've stayed in Lo Stambecco for our annual ski trip and had a wonderful time. The location is fantastic, you walk out of the hotel onto the ski slopes. The ski area was great, we loved the fact that it wasn’t crowded at all and had a lot of nice red pistes. The hotel rooms are simple but clean. The staff was very friendly and we’ve enjoyed dinner, especially the antipasti and desserts.
It’s a great place to stay if you love skiing and don’t want to go out into the night life every evening.

“Probably the best location for skiing Cervinia/Zermatt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

Stayed one week Feb/March 2011, two adults and two sons (14 and 16). Great location and view at above 2500 meters (Cervinia village is at 2000 meters). Access only by ropeway daytime, suited us good however as we all get tired after a whole day of skiing, after-ski and dinner... The hotel is actually part of the building of two ropeways coming from the village, and one ropeway going further up the mountain. There is also a fast 4-seater starting at the site. I.e, a great start-point for skiing, 20 minutes and you are skiing in Switzerland. The hotel was a little larger and more comfortable than expected, approx. 60-90 beds. Never felt like a priosoner in the snow. Nice half board option with breakfast and dinner. Pretty good breakfast, sometimes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Dinner always with 4 dishes, "antipasto" (good selection), "primo piatto" (sometimes disliked by the kids), "secondo piatto" and "dolce" (dessert, more healthy alternatives would be nice). Nice, light entertainment, and the staff is friendly and helpful (they e.g. supply ski passes). Pool table and other games are available. Whats missing? A sauna option with a view over the valley, would be great!

“A Prison in the snow”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2008

Positive thing: directly on the snow tracks.

You cannot go out after 5 pm, bar is very very expensive, food is poor, personnel is unpolite, no distractions, old furnitures, dirty rooms, no water in the bathroom (4 days out of 7) for 4-5 hours.
For the same price you get a king-treatment in wanderful hotels in town.

“Perfect escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2008

First of all reaching Breuil-Cervinia by public transport is pretty challenging. Taxi from Milan/Malpensa is as expensive as 250 Euro one way. Train + bus route looks much reasonable, but you'll face another problem. Hotel is unaccesible by any transport after 16.30. Because of its location (near the main chairlift to Zermatt and more than 1000 meters up from Breuil-Cervinia) the only way to go is the cabin-lift (from 9.00 - 16.30).
Hotel itself, looks like skiers perfect escape. You won't find any advanced services or smart things, only general 3* service, but its only 50 meter from the main lift to high slopes and 30 meters to slopes going down to Breuil-Cervinia. Rooms are clean but small and uninspiring. Breakfast is rather poor. Dinner is much better, especially sweets and wine list. For lunch use "onslope" restaurants which serve local specialties which are good with vino de la casa (home made wine). Hotel has private lockers for boots and ski (free of charge).

  • Liked — closeness to the slopes
  • Disliked — limited transport accesability
