“Warm , cosy, staff were lovely..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We spent Christmas at the Hotel Bucaneve, and what a good choice. Recently re-furbished to a very good standard, wooden floors, walls were decorated in traditional fabrics.
Facilities; The hotel consists of two fireside lounges, comfortable sofas, and armchairs, fires are generally lit about 4.30 – 5pm. To the side is a bar area, where every night the manager/owner plays the piano, sings and sometimes his son accompanies him on the saxophone. WI-Fi is available throughout the hotel, free of charge. There is a a reasonable size ski room, with boot warmers. The whole place has recently been refurbished to a high standard, decked in wood, and fabric walls, tastefully done. On Christmas Eve, the spa/wellness centre opened. Lift passes can be purchased in reception.
Meals: taken in a lovely cosy restautane, similar to that of an Austrian Stuble. The staff are lovely, very attentive, and speak good English.. Breakfast consisted of meats/cheese, pastries, cereals etc. Hot option was any style of eggs made to order. There were two ‘juicers’ so you could prepare yourself fresh fruit juice. Dinner consisted of 5 courses, beautifully presented, and well cooked. Bread was homemade, and the food cooked consisted of local produce. Wine tends to be around 20 euros a bottle and if you don’t drink it all, they will cork it and put it away for the next night. If you don’t want to buy bottled water, they will bring you a jug of tap water. Also, included at about 4pm was afternoon tea, with home baked cake, this was prepared in the lounge.
Location - very convenient, take a left out of the hotel and walk alongside the Hotel Lyskam and you are at the Cretz lift, less than 100 m. It is just off a lovely ‘cobbled’ main street, but like most things in Cervinia, everything is close by. Also, added bonus only 1hr 40 mins from Turin airport, so no long coach transfer..
Room – we had a nice superior room. Very spacious, clean, and cozy. We had a balcony and a sitting area, SKY TV, mini bar, safe, plenty of storage space. Bathroom had a bath and overhead fixed shower, with shower screen. Toiletries, slippers and bathrobes were also included.
Skiing - lots of skiing, beware though bad weather can close the higher lifts therefore closing all links to the other side of the mountain(Valtournanche, Zermatt). All lifts are 4/6 man chairs, gondolas, and cable car, button lifts only really appear on beginner slopes. Lovely blues and the reds aren’t too daunting. Great place to learn or gain confidance. The Plan Maison gondola is about a 10 min walk, with boots on, so if you are a beginner I would suggest staying near to that, that way you can get up to the main ‘blue area’ of Plan Maison, You can reach the Plan Maison area from the Cretz via 2 chair lifts, then ski a nice blue run down, but if winds are high, that 2nd chairlift is closed, so you have to work your way to the Gondola.
…we liked this hotel, it is warm, cosy, and the staff are lovely, certainly had the personal touch. I would return to this hotel and to the resort.

“The Faboulus Wood and Sound of Music Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

Our family of two adults and two children were guests at the hotel in July 2011. The staff is very friendly and dressed up as the family von Trapp. This fits well with a unique interior of tapestries and wood. Wood on walls, floors and ceilings that smells of any kind of chemical products for treating wood. This fabulous hotel can probably be perceived positively or negatively because of its special character. For us it was the overall experience is more important than to complain about individual details such as the need to bring headlamp to read the room. If you do not like as unique cuisine, decor and attire of the staff, maybe we should settle for breakfast, but it never hurts to give up traditional menus and dare to try and broaden the palate experience. For Nicola, we can only bow that was always in place. A man with less sleep than us and probably some outstanding vacation to look forward to. He has a beautiful daughter that you can get to dance with if you're good ;-) If you forget your coupon for a golf club run Nicola down with it. We highly recommend this hotel as a little experience and the opportunity to thank the other staff were also very friendly and correct.

“Warm,cosy,personal...guideline for an albergo in the Alps”

Interior refreshingly maximalistic, tradition is felt everywhere, service is more personal than the proversion you can find in a boring Cityhotel. Out of the roughly twenty stays we have had in the Alps this is a top three. We stayed a number of times in Zermatt at Mont Cervin. If we consider this area again for skiing we would choose Cervinia and Bucaneve again. The slopes are easier to access, you reach the best parts of Zermatt faster from Cervinia, less people, less hassle, Valtourenche is a sleeping beauty nearby and perfect for both beginners and topskiers...still in the same system! And you pay Italian prices in a soft Euroversion, coffee is drinkable and you can eat fantastic food at the Chalet Etoile, two lifts up.
The hotel have two weak spots. Food is, like at a number of halfboard programs, too complicated. Why not a salladoption plus a traditional pasta every night for us who love the traditional italian dish? After all, you learned the french how to cook.
Second is the internet. That sucks, too slow and not 2011.
The staff is a dream. Go Bucaneve, you wont be disappointed!

“good location, and great staff”

Not many hotels in Breuil-Cervina can be booked online, so I felt lucky to get a room and hoped for the best. I was pleasantly surprised with the facilities, location and meals.
Location - very convenient, only 2 short blocks to the main lift. There are numerous Ski rental places with one across the street; a mini market is next to it. The town is fairly small so all restaurants, ski shops and stores are all within a few blocks.
Meals - my room included breakfast and dinner (Half Board). The dining room was elegant as was the food, the service even better. Everyone took care to know you and provide whatever you wanted even if not on the menu, Breakfast was an assortment of meats, cheese, croissants, yogurts, cereals and fruit; also included were any style eggs made to order. Dinner was very impressive, they must have changed the silverware at least 5 times. The food was as good as a 5 star restaurant, beautifully prepared and presented. The woman in charge ensured everything was perfect .
Facilities - there are 2 large lounges both with fireplaces and cozy seating. There's a large bar with a friendly bartender offering snacks at happy hour and drinks throughout the night. Nicola provides entertainment singing and playing piano....more about him later. The group I skied with were at the Hotel Meuble Gorret which was highly rated yet had no lobby or sitting area, so they spent the evening at Bucaneve and loved it. There's also a nice ski room with boot warmers as well as free guest parking.
Room - don't expect much but then again friends staying at other hotels claimed my single room was larger than their doubles. The decor is wood and older but cozy, the bathroom was large and I had a view of Mt Cervinia / Matterhorn. The only inconvenience was having a bathtub with a hand held shower head and no shower curtain; if they could add a holder at a higher height it would be a plus.
Nicola - what a great guy, he checked me in, fixed my TV, played piano, sang and made my stay thoroughly enjoyable. I don't know when he slept because he was always around day and night. Thank you for making me feel at home!
Lastly - everyone speaks english.

“Worst hotelstay EVER - overpriced, crappy rooms, hostile staff.”

Look at the pictures on the websites, this looks like a nice hotel, well worth the 4 stars it claims to deserve. Not many pictures of the rooms themselves, but the quality of the hotel looks very good otherwise. But when we arrived and got our rooms, we faced the most awfull rooms. Small, old, dirty carpets on the floor, the walls where full of old stains, and the bedsheets must have been purchased in the 70's. If this hotel claimed to be two stars, well, then we could have accepted the standard, but this hotel claims to be 4 starred. Where do they get these stars from, I just wonder.. So we went down to the reception, complaining about the rooms. Here we learnt lesson number one: If you want the staff to remain helpfull and polite, then you do not complain. Could John Cleese have got his inspiration for his role in Fawlty Towers from the receptionst on this hotel? The arrogance and unwillingness to help exceeds imagination. After a bit of arguing, we were able to get new rooms, a tad improvement in these room, but still - If I worked at this so-called 4 star hotel, I would be embarrassed to show any of these rooms.

The breakfast was not much to brag about either; I have eated far better on guesthouses and hostels for a fraction of the price of this hotel. During the week, we had several observations of arrogant, almost hostile attitude towards us and other guest. One guest also got kicked out of the room one day to early. The guest was relaxing in the room when one of the staff came barging into the room, stating that the guest had to leave the room. After some arguing, it turned out that the staff had made a mistake and double booked the room...

This hotel is not worth a penny and is an embarrasment for the toursim in Cervinia.

Having said this, the man working in the bar was nothing less of wonderfull and true serviceminded person.

Will also recommend Lindas, a restaurant/bar at the end of the slopes, with very friendly and nice staff.

Just across the street, we also found a very nice restaurant where we ate every evening. Friendly staff, good service, good food.
