“Very Good Location basic hotel”

We have just got back from the Grivola in Cervinia and we had a good holiday the skiing in cervinia is fantastic! however the hotel was medioca! the location is awesome on the main pedestrianized strip and just a short stone throw from the lifts! also if you want to catch the gondila up to plan maizon the sister hotel just over the road will arrange a land rover to take you there.
the rooms were basic, clean and very hot! the food was a choice of 2 things on the menu as we went half board so it was a bit limited and not that gr8,
we traveled with inghams as a beginner package and i must say that inghams (Jane) was very very good, also the wine tasting with Jane is a must! .

Didn't stay at the hotel, but the restaurant is a must visit in Cervinia.

The food is fantastic, the restaurant is really nice and the waiters are so welcoming and friendly and really make you feel at home. They have a laugh and even had a drink with us.

We visited several times during our trip it was that good.

“Don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2009

Just arrived from Cervinia where we spent one week skiing and stayd at Grivola hotel. Only thing to say something good about is the location. Two minutes walk and you are goig up to the mountains. But that's all.
Food, awful. We booked halfboard, but we only had two dinners at Grivola (from six nights). Just couldn't stand the pure servise, very bad English and bad food.
The servise is very unpolite and most of the stuff speak very bad English. On Monday evening they had a party at the bar downstair starting 11 pm and lasting up forty minutes. We had a room in second floor and it sounded like the band was actually in our room. This happens on every Monday during high season of skiing. And NOBODY said anything about this to us. We had gone to bed after having nice day of skiing..and were very much disturped. They just said that "this is the every Monday problem and we can not do anything about it".
The room was very small and very hot. Lukely it was kept clean during our stay.
Cervinia was lovely place to ski. All the slopes were in excellent condition. We would love to go to cervinia to ski back again. But we would never stay at Grivola anymore (and we spend approximately 40 nights in a year in different hotels around the world)..
If you go to Cervinia to ski, don't forget to have lunch in Chalet Etoile restaurant near the Plan maison lift station. Excellent food and very friendly servise! Even when it was full crouded almost all the time. But it is worth to wait until you get your pasta!

“Not great, but not bad at all.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2008

Mmmm,

where do I start? We were a group of 7 adults and 3 kids that stayed here for two weeks over Easter. Everyone enjoyed it and would go back. That's not to say that there are no problems.

Location - fabulous.

Food - A choice of 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 sweets. They were happy to replace a main couse with a pasta dish of your choice, or grilled vegetables, or an omlette for the veggies amongst us. You could also choose to have one of the starters for your main course, if you prefered.
Breakfast was continental in style. There seemed to be a lack of bowls, which wan't particulary good.

The temperature in the dining room was very variable. It was a fight to avoid a seat next to the radiator as it could get VERY hot. Augustino is an excellent waiter, couldn't do enough to help and we had great fun with him.

Bar - There isn't one I'm afraid. You were welcome to sit in the downstairs restaurant until 18:00 but then that was it until it had started to empty out later. Not so good if your children were sleeping upstairs as you have nowhere else to go in the building. Sitting in the dining room was supposed to be an option but some of the staff there were always looking to get tables cleared and set for the next meal and you didn't always feel very welcome.

Rooms - We had a large triple room for the 3 of us (2 adults and 1 child) and, apart from problems getting a consistent temperature, it was perfect for what we required. The room was kept immaculately clean during our stay despite our attempts to leave it as a pig sty. Please note that under 13s are free in a triple room if sharing with two adults. What a great deal!!!

The only real problem we had was that one of the ladies in our group is sure that a bottle of Chanel perfume disappeared from the drawer in their room on their last day. She thought that she had maybe packed it away, but couldn't find it when she got home. Nothing went missing from any of the other rooms and there was plenty of other perfumes, cosmetics, camera and even money lying about. We are at a loss as to what could have happened. We can only assume that one of the cleaners helped herself, but find it hard to believe.

“Getting better than what you pay for.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2008

We stayed as a group of 13 a mixture of adults and kids. Whilst the rooms are basic and quite small thery were clean and adequate. We stayed half board and were a little nervous about what we had read about the food on Trip Advisor. The food was fine. The menu was varied you had 2 choices of starters and mains each day. The salad vegetables were fresh and the portions large (although the vegetables did tend to be overcooked). For the kids they let us substitute a meal with a pasta dish if we wanted to. One waiter on the evening shift was brilliant the other pretty terrible. The location was perfect being a short walk to the bottom of the slopes. My main criticism is that there is no bar to speak of. Upto 6 there is and then they close it down for the public restaurant opening. Later they open it again but were closing it at 11 which in this day and age is ridiculous.
At the end of the day it is one of the cheaper places to stay in Cervinia and I think you are getting better than what you pay for.
