“Perfectly adequate, basic hotel. Good location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2009

We stayed at the Sporting for a week's skiing and found it to be a perfectly good, although basic hotel. The rooms are compact - there's just enough room to walk round the bed, but not much more. The bathroom was small, with shower, WC, sink & bidet, but had everything you really need. Previous reviewers have mentioned problems with noise, but we had no such problems - even the church clock opposite stops chiming after 10pm and doesn't start again until 8am. Breakfast was pretty good for Italy: fresh croissants, rolls, juice and coffee. There is no guests' lounge in the hotel, which is a bit of disadvantage, but there is a bar/cafe on the ground floor.

The location was great. The village is mostly pedestrianised, so coaches have to drop you off at the car park at the centre. The Sporting is almost directly opposite, so no long walks with cases. The lifts are about 3 mins away, unless you want to go up on the gondala, which is a up the hill. All the restaurants, bars, etc are a short walk from the hotel.

Finally, the owners were helpful and friendly, although their english is not great. We were particularly impressed when, on the day we left, at 6:45 in the morning, the owners mother (I think that's who she was) was waiting for us in the bar downstairs in her dressing gown ready to serve us some coffee before we left.

So, in conclusion - the Sporting is great if all you need is a place to sleep, but if you want all the comforts of a large hotel, you should look elsewhere.

“Friendly and helpful staff”

Just arrived back from a one week stay at the Sporting. It is a two star hotel and as you would expect the rooms are small and facilities are limited. That said, the hotel is clean and comfortable, occupies a very central location and is close to the slopes, a two minute walk to the Cretaz chairlift. The staff couldn't speak much English but we managed to communicate what we needed to quite easily and they couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We were greeted by all at the hotel with a cheery good morning and the room was warm and clean when we returned from the slopes each day. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and found breakfast to be simple but adequate with good coffee! Glad we chose this option as there is a range of good quality restaurants in the town. My favourite was 'Jour et Nuit" where we had fantastic fillet steak cooked in a traditional wood oven. Luca, the owner, has a great range of Italian wines and we also went in for drinks on nights when we dined elsewhere. The Sporting is basic but great if you want a cheap place to stay in the centre of town.

“Mediocre at it's best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2008

Good stuff:
* Fantastic location, just a few mins walk from the chair lifts, shops, bars.
* Adequate breakfast (fresh croissant, hot drinks, cereal, breadrolls and jam). Beware the strange juice though!
* Small but reasonable room with everything you need (although very dated, and a bit dusty so not recommended for asthma sufferers!), and bathroom clean and adequate too. A few more shelves in the wardrobe would have been nice.

Bad stuff:
* Noisy! Take earplugs, as you can hear drunken people coming out of bars til 4am if you're at the front of the hotel.
* No ski locker. There's a heated boot rack and ski rail in the corridor of the basement, but not enough space for all the guests, so if you go for a drink after skiing, then you'll have to put your boots in your room, making it difficult to dry them!
* Hot. SO hot some nights it's difficult to sleep. Probably because the thermostat was in the corridor and it seemed to be turned up to 23C at night.
* No breakfast if you have an early morning shuttle to airport (Actually, the owner didn't even get up!)
* The hotel seems to be run by 2 sisters who are perhaps in their 70s. They seem oblivious to the fact that smoking is no longer permitted in public places, so everything stinks of cigarette smoke.

This wouldn't be my first choice of hotel, but on a ski holiday you don't really spend much time in your room, so it was almost adequate for what we needed. Take a phrase book, as they don't speak much english. Take a locking suitcase for your valuables, as the rooms don't have a safe in.

“Excellent Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2008

Myself and three friends have just returned from the Hotel Sporting in Breuil Cervinia.

The hotel is basic but very warm and clean, vital ingredients for any snowboard trip. I secured the booking by fax, no money changed hands until we checked out.

The staff are very friendly despite the fact that they speak very little English and the breakfast in the morning was sufficient to set you up for the day.

Stays are on a half board basis and we paid 70 Euros each for this. The evening meal was served in the 3* sister hotel, Breuil. The evening meal was very good value and the restaurant staff excellent.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking value accomodation for a short skiing break in what is otherwise quite an expensive place

“Cosy hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2006

We stayed at this hotel for one week in january during a skiing trip to cervinia. The hotel is located in the centre of the village near all the bars and restaurants and only a few minutes walk to the ski lifts. The hotel rooms are quite small, but the were very warm and clean, with maid service everyday. The breakfast at the hotel is continental, but the staff are very helpful and will try to accommodate any other requests for a small charge. The hotel has a ski and boot room, and a small cosy bar. The staff were very welcoming, i would definately recommend this hotel. Definately good value for money.
