“**Very Nice Hotel**”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

A nice hotel run by an amazing individual - Christina. She is wonderful. Very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make guests feel like guests.

We had a lovely balcony room overlooking the pool. A note to fellow travelers, the hotel is a good 15 minute walk to town. The bus stops outside the hotel and takes you into town for 1 euro. The walk is about 10 minutes too far if you go into town often. Breakfast is wonderful - fresh bread and cakes, cheeses and meats - a full spread.

Close to the botanical gardens and great local restaurants up the street.

“Very pleasant stay”

This is a very pleasant hotel, very clean and in a quiet location in the wonderful surroundings of Merano. Excellent breakfast, friendly welcome, and great views. Only negatives would be that the window blinds allowed light to get in when surely blackout is a must, and there was slightly old-fashioned decoration in the rooms, which is to be expected to some degree.

“Wonderful Service & Great Breakfast!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

This charming hotel is very neat and clean. The lobby and breakfast rooms are interspersed with interesting curios from the owner's personal collection and gifts from friends, etc and beautifully furnished. The rooms are big and functional, complimentary mineral water is provided.

The breakfast is really great, with a wide variety of bread, confectionery, muesli, fresh cheese and ham. I fell in love with blue cheese on that day!. Unfortunately all other Italy hotels' blue cheese cannot match up to the standard of this one. After the very satisfying breakfast, we walk to Castle Trauttmansdorff and its magnificent Gardens which is only a few minutes away (ask the owner for directions).

The best thing about this hotel is the service provided by the owner. She was very friendly, wait up for us when we arrived late in Merano and had to find taxi, recommend us a pizzieria nearby (which by the way was delicious!) and did not begrudged me when I accidentally broke her kaleidoscope (I still feel guilty to this day :(..).

This hotel is reachable by the Merano local bus service from Merano Bhf (Bus 201.4, otherwise called city bus 4). There is also a late bus service operating from Merano Bhf (line 146). Ask the bus driver for directions.

If given the opportunity, I will like to visit this hotel again.

“Value for money and a wonderful host”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2011

We were in town for a weekend, and wanted a hotel that was located close enough to walk to the town but that also offered reasonable valuable for money. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor, we opted for Hotel Zima. We were very satisfied.

The room was exactly as pictured on the web site, clean and comfortable. The room had a nice view over the hills (there are other buildings in between, so don't think of a sweeping valley view, but it's nice view nonetheless).

There is internet in the lobby, but not available at least in our room. Breakfast was the very nice spread I have come to expect at good Germany hotels: breads, cheeses, cold cuts, cereals, yogurts, and cakes.

As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is family run and the host (I don't know her name, other reviews mention it's Christina) is incredible. From the time we phoned to make a reservation to our checkout she was warm, pleasant, and knowledgeable. She made some excellent recommendations for walks we could take and a dinner, which were spot on. On the second day of our stay the weather turned a little wet, so we began to think that we should leave a day early. I approached her with some trepidation as we had reserved for two days, but she was incredibly understanding about our leaving a day early. (As it turned out, we decided to stay, which proved to be a good choice. The weather improved, and we had a great day.)

The only small not so much negative as caution about the hotel is its location. It is a solid 12-15 minute walk to the town center. It's along a pleasant residential street, and on most occasions I didn't mind this at all. But on returning from a day of walking in the hills, I did wish the hotel were just a few steps closer to town. But in the end I think it's a small inconvenience in exchange for a very nice stay, a great host, and a very good value.

“An idyllic setting, a real hidden gem.”

Christina, the hotelier, was the perfect hostess. She was very charming, helpful and fluent in many languages. The hotel itself was lovely. Our room (it was more like a suite) had a beautiful view of the mountains and was spotlessly clean. We selected Merano, as a convenient stopover for visiting the stelvio pass but we both felt we would like to go back. The town centre was very attractive with an intriguing mix of italian and german culture.
