We really liked the old world charm of this place and were very pleased with the size of the rooms. Everything was clean and very functional. Great location near the train station. Bolzano is not a large town, so everything was easy to walk to. The staff was efficient and spoke very good English, which we found to be somewhat of a relief in this area. The breakfast spread was very good with the greatest variety of any place we stayed on our 2 week trip to Italy and Switzerland. All of the common spaces in the hotel were very charming. The only downside we found is that we felt somewhat out of place as 2 young, American tourist. The hotel seems to cater to older, European business travelers, so we got some looks when we turned up for breakfast in our hiking gear. However, that would not stop me from staying here again in the future.

The bar is cool and we hung out until later when the jazz band played

Also they have a above average amokers lounge too

This concept of two beds = queen bed for couples is not flying - they insist on this in Europe

We loved the ambience of this hotel. It has an old world feel and is elegant and classy. Very popular with well-to-do German tourists with a smattering of Italians. The service was excellent at the front desk with very friendly, competent staff. Breakfast had a good spread although the weekend we were there the staff seemed to be at their limit with handling all the traffic. On both days we had to wait for a table (5 - 10 minutes). The park / garden behind the hotel is beautifully maintained with interesting modern sculptures interspersed among the plants and a beautiful, sparkling pool. It must be nice lounging there in the summer months. The only thing I would complain about is the musty smell in the first room we were given. It did smell of stale cigarettes although it is officially a non-smoking room. My guess is that guests can get away with smoking in the rooms and not have to worry about any serious repercussions. For someone like myself who is sensitive to smoke, this is a definite drawback. The second room we were given smelled simply musty but after a good airing out it was fine for the several days we were there. The bar in the evening is fun with witty bartenders, a huge selection of drinks, and an engaging, old-world atmosphere. 15 minute free internet in the lobby and wifi at cost in the rooms.

Traditional hotel, good size room and bathroom with good quality toiletries. Very clean, furniture on good condiiton, likewise carpets etc. Breakfast buffet very good although I would have preferred more pastries. Nice gardens, good pool but a little small, more a dip pool than one for swimming.

Excellent location for shops, tourist attractions and transport links.

Not cheap, perhaps marginally too expensive but then you have to pay for the nice things.

Would love to go back in the future.
