“Art Hotel Boston - Don't stay in Room 66 unless you like to be awakened by ghosts”
I booked this Hotel through the Guardian newspaper for a two night stay and I asked for a room with an art theme a balcony and non smoking. When I arrived at the Art Hotel it looked beautiful from the outside and I was happy with the visual side of the interior at the reception point. I thought to myself I have really booked well here. However on speaking with the receptionist he informed me that my room was in a separate building round the back of the hotel but that it was still the same hotel but separate none the same. He said that it was a new apartment and that it was bigger than the single ones in the building. He proceeded to show me to my room. We had to go out of the building around the corner and then turn right at the end of the block then into a locked courtyard that was huge and then up some stairs through more locked doors and then another door and finally to my room which was number 66. Inside the room it smelt of smoke immediately, it was dark and the decor was green and basic and there was no sign of any art. The window was ground floor so no balcony and it was facing the dirty streets. In a word awful. I felt the blood drain from me, I was so disappointed that they had given me such a nasty unsafe room after I had paid for a better one. I did complain and they said they would give me a better room the next day but as I was only staying for two days I felt it would have been an even bigger inconvenience to change room for one day! That evening I showered in the room and the water was cold and I caught a cold. The second night of staying there I had a terrible nightmare the kind of which I don't think I will ever forget. At every hour of my sleep I felt there was something or somebody in the room trying to harm me, it was absolutely frightening and in the morning when I awoke the shower was still not hot. By then I had reached breaking point. I called the reception and they said I had to come to another room in the actual hotel and take a shower there!!!! I had to put on my coat grab a towel and walk outside around the building to do this. The breakfast area in the hotel was good and the bar and garden area was nice - I only ventured out to see that part of the hotel on the second day because I didn't feel that I was part of the hotel because of where my room was situated. All in all I feel that if this hotel wants to call itself an Art Hotel it needs to change its decor of the rooms immediately and make them visually spectacular. If you pay for the art you want to see the art in your room not be brought to a dark and creepy smelly room and handed three keys. Its like the funding must of run out and they didn't bother to spend any money on doing up the rooms (maybe if they sell one of the paintings). Its a shame because the hotel has the potential to be great if they just made a few changes. It is also badly located and not near the centre which is another reason to make it more accommodating. I shall not be coming back, wild horses wouldn't be able to drag me back here.
