“A pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We selected this hotel from several options offered through a travel agency. Just looked interesting. Then we read some rather unflattering reviews. Stayed with our choice because how bad could it be for a few nights?

Very glad we did. We did not have one of the special rooms but what we did have was very nice. Interesting decor (I think each room is different with an eclectic, amusing approach to furnishings - but they all functioned!). Adequate size, lots of storage, good lighting, very comfortable bed. Good size shower - slightly erratic water pressure and temp but we figured it out. We had a street side room but no street noise.

Breakfast was simple but good. Really good scrambled eggs, bacon, prossciutto, ham, cheeses, sweet and savory breads (one super dark, crusty, grainy bread that you hope they don't run out of!), juices, fresh fruit bowl, pots of coffee but they will do espresso or cappucino if you ask, waters.

Location convenient to train station. Walkable to center city piazzas, museums, basilica, Roman ruins, parks.

A very nice restaurant is connected to the hotel - La Linea Continua. They offer a E20 prix fixe dinner each day - the menu is posted in the elevator - as well as an a la carte menu. Interesting, well prepared food with an emphasis on local fare.

The desk staff was very helpful with directions, special requests and problem solving. Even apologetic about out receiving a parking ticket (our fault - we paid the right amount but parked in a restricted space - helps to know a bit of the language).

There is a parking garage nearby. However it does have some unusual hours so make sure you are aware. We had an early check-out because of a 6:30 flight. The garage doesn't open until 7. The hotel arranged for us to park in front (in the hotel director's space) the preceding evening. And they had breakfast bags ready for us at the desk.
All staff was very nice, helpful, friendly.

“Friendly but economical with the truth”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

The hotel has attractive public areas with interesting modern art pieces, and we were greeted by very friendly receptionists, so that was a good start. We were even more pleased when one of them told us that we'd been put into an 'extra special room' which we would 'really like'. As it was in another building, her colleague would accompany us to it.

This extra special room turned out to be around the corner in a block of apartments, one of which had been converted into six hotel rooms. Perhaps the others were light, airy, and stuffed full of works of art; ours however was dark and poky, so much so that it was impossible to open the door while using the wardrobe. As we were only booked for two nights & planned to be out all of the next day, we decided it would do.

The bathroom was a good size, with an overhead shower in the bath. Unfortunately (perhaps in an attempt to achieve a minimalist look), there was neither a shower screen nor curtain. I found myself on my knees every morning in the bath, attempting to shower without creating a flood on the bathroom floor. Perhaps the religious could kill two birds with one stone and say their prayers while showering, but for me it was a most unpleasant experience.

I will concede that the bed, which consisted of two large singles joined together, was very comfortable. Breakfast was average, though I was impressed that the waiter remembered that I'd asked for a lungo the previous morning.

The hotel is quite a distance from the centre, so unless you want to eat in the hotel restaurant, it would be best to get a timetable & hop on a bus or tram.

Room Tip: Don't accept a room in the annexe!

“Okay, but not what you'd expect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

This was our second stay in this hotel. This stay was definitely not as enjoyable as the first. In fact, on our next trip to Torino, we will NOT stay here. First of all, we were given what I'll call the Anne Frank suite. It was a room on the top floor of the hotel with NO windows. It did have two skylights. It was a bit claustrophobic. And the air conditioning did not work -- not great with 80-plus degree (Fahrenheit) weather. We requested another room and the guy at the front desk said he would check and get back to us. He didn't. On the second try with a very pleasant young woman we were moved to a room on a lower floor with windows. It was very nice. But it was more expensive than the Anne Frank Suite (also known as the Picasso suite) and we were not informed until we checked out and presented with the bill. The hotel's lobby is a bit scuff and the art is beginning to look a little stale. With a little work and upkeep, this could be a great hotel. Sad that it's not. Oh, and the wireless internet is very very spotty. Go to the lobby if you really want it to work.

Room Tip: At all costs, avoid the Picasso Suite on the top floor.

“Lovely hotel, but warning about internet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

This is a lovely hotel with a good restaurant. Very comfortable although small rooms (and dark), but the bed is excellent, which I think is most important. Most of the staff are very pleasant, but it is not a warm reception.

A warning about the terrible internet connectivity. This was a business trip and we selected this hotel in part because we were assured when making the reservation, that there is good internet connection. To make matters worse, we had to pay for the terrible connection. Not possible in any room, and even in the garden (which is a lovely space), the connectivity is not great.

Air conditioning seems non-existent, so we were lucky it was not too hot at night and we slept with the windows open. Not a bad place however if you do not count on using the internet.

Room Tip: Not sure how large the standard rooms are, but beware of the junior suite - not very comfortable if...

“Appearances are often misleading: a ranking of 3 stars would be more appropriate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

We spent 3 days in Turin in this hotel thanks to a gift, so we didn't choose the Hotel. There are artworks in the hotel, but it has not the standards of a 4 stars. The room was not so big, but sufficient if you only want to rest when you come back in your room after a day spent wandering around Turin.
We had the chance of visitng Turin in the middle of August when parking is free in city centre, the hotel has not parking lots reverved for clients.
There are artworks in the hotel but I would have preferred a better service and a more diversified breakfast.
No good quality/price report and you have to pay for Internet connection...
