“Hard to find - like stepping back in time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2011

Hard to find in amongst shops and behind closed wooden doors. Walked around for an hour until we discovered it - rickety hotel sign was not lit at the time and even when it is ...it's discreet. Reception is on second floor via very old fashioned lift with two sets of wire doors. Room was a suite @ $135 euro a night with two single beds ...which were hard and a small balcony.. Stairs to lift to access 4th floor which isn't ideal but service very friendly and hotel quiet. Limited breakfast range. Free wifi and close to metro and train station. Very old Worldy hotel which used to be an old manson we understand.

Room Tip: Go for the best room ..singles are ver small

“Small Period Hotel close to the centre of Turin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Located on the 3 floors of a C19th commercial building on the corner of two major streets close to the centre of Turin, this small hotel is a very convenient base from which to explore the city. Trams, metro and buses are at the door, the main station is 10mins walk and the main sites 15 mins away by foot.
The hotel is accessed via a small cage elevator which is traditional in buildings of this vintage and beats lugging bags up 3 flights of stairs, although within the hotel itself access between floors is via a more modern small lift.
The hotel has a beautiful small lounge with period funiture, elaborate frescoed ceiling and french windows onto the street and a small bar in the corner. Our room facing into a courtyard was on the 3rd floor and consisted of a smal siting room and adjacent bedroom, rather grandiosely described as a junior suite. It was small but perfectly adequate for one or two nights, clean but a little faded. The bathroom was narrow and one had to squeeze past the WC and bidet to get to the shower, not a problem but really only suitable for one person at a time.
Both rooms had french windows onto the courtyard, there was a small fridge, small flat screen TV and free wireless. The pedestal fan was useful as the rooms got full afternoon sun and was quite warm.
Breakfast included in the rate was quite adequate, not lavish but typically european and sufficient, with good cappucinos.
Parking is on the street E1.30/hr, 08.00 - 19.30,we were fortunate to get a space on the corner 20m from the door but could be a problem.

“Nice hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

After a fun time getting through the Torino traffic, we eventually managed to get parked up at the hotel's private parking - that is a major plus in Torino!

Getting luggage to rooms on the 3rd or 4th floor is a bit of a chore but the room we had was large and comfortable. We looked out over Corso Emmanuelle Vittorio II - no problem with sleeping with traffic noise, it's fairly typical of any major city!

Torino itself is lovely, plenty of cafes to enjoy and lots of museums to trek round. Shame that the Museo dell Automobilia was shut! Just have to go back... ;)

“A mixed bag at the Biancamano”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2007

While in Turin this October for Slowfood's Salone del Gusto, I stayed at the Conte Biancamano, on an upper floor of a lovely historic palazzo. It is a pity that my room was so horrible because the hotel itself had some great features. Upon check in I was lead to a room which was not only minute but had a bed to match and with a decor that reminded me of boarding school. I could not spend a second in there..I now understand how it must feel to suffer from claustrophobia. I asked the receptionist for an alternative and was lead to the only remaining vacant room in the place...larger, yes, but with a bed the same size and a tiny bathroom which required some manoeuvring to turn around in. Again absolutely no charm or character to the room which was also located on the main road, Corso Emmanuele with double door to the balcony that never shut properly hence very noisy. And that was that,....3 nights with virtually no sleep.
The public rooms, the bar and breakfast room were actually rather charming in an ornate turn of the century way and the staff were friendly and as helpful as possible. They were even going to allow me to check my emails on the hotel computer but their internet connection was down. Breakfast was pretty decent too and served in the cozy little breakfast room. I poked my head into a couple of the double rooms on the quieter side of the building and they were actually much more spacious, some with antiques and more in keeping with the style of the building.

  • Liked — it was clean
  • Disliked — the tired decor and tiny bed
