“Warm and friendly even for a strange one like me”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

The hotel is great and friendly with a real feeling that the staff like you.

I can't remember what I booked as I was in a rush to get my train and get the room booked before the internet time i had ran out but they confirmed with me quickly that they had received my booking.

When I arrived they were unfazed by my smelly clothes and large back pack ( I had just walked from the metro on a strangely hot day) and my generally grubby demeanour.

My room was a little bit basic but so was the price.
I had a front facing room on the first floor and I assumed I would be drowned out by the traffic noise but in reality the doors to the veranda sound proofed the room very effectively.
I had a sink and vanity unit plus a bidet which was a little weird considering the toilet was around the corner. My bed was either a huuge single or a smallish double but was definitely enough for me.
The pillows were great - not the square half filled bags of chaff you usually get in budget hotels but proper pillows.
Each morning there was breakfast laid on (croissants, cake cereal, toast juice yoghurt) and the owners made me a cappucino.
Each afternoon I'd return to find my room cleaned and bed made with fresh towels and face washer on my rack.
The staff were friendly ( think two of them were married) and always raced to help me.
and considering I paid less than 60 euros per night I think I got excellent value for money.

“Good budget choice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2008

This hotel was an excellent budget choice.
Location is close-ish to the metro which is easy to use and takes very little time to get right to central Milan.
Hotel was very clean with good amenities, including TV (all Italian, however) and A/C.
Great garden at the side where I could take my buffet style breakfast (cappuccino included).
Paid only 39 euro a night for 4 nights, single room, bathroom down the hall, sink and bidet in room.

“Eh, sub-par....rather "cold"....both the room & people.”

The Ca Grande was not what I expected as it looks nicer from the pictures on line. The room was "cold" two small single beds, a sink (we didn't get a room w/bathroom). The gentleman who checked us in was equally as cold, he seemed annoyed to do his job of checking us in. He wasn't very welcoming. But there was a younger guy from Italy & the Dominican who was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was only sub-par as well....yogurt, breads and cereal, nothing special.

“Lovely hotel, recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2007

Hotel is a little way out of town but Milan has a good underground and also a lovely tram system. From the central station you can get almost to the door by tram. I'd say the walk from the underground is more than the 300 yards advertised but was fine for us.

(As per most italian hotels the tiled floors tended to be noisy in the morning).

The staff were all really really friendly and helpfull. The room was great, we had an en-suite advertised as with 'bath' but don't worry it was a shower. The room had aircon and soap and towels and a small breakfast was included. For the money it was brilliant and just what we wanted. The hotel can be booked via a website and you get directions on how to get there on the confirmation printout.

If we went back to Milan we would stay there again.

“Charming little hotel with friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2007

It was quite hard to find an accommodation with a decent price in Milan. This hotel cost 100€ per night for a double room including breakfast and it was the best deal I found. We were there during the Formula 1 Monza Grand Prix.

Ca' Grande is located a bit further off from the city centre but there's an underground stop called Loreto quite near. So it's not too much trouble to move around.

The hotel was kept very clean and there was a lovely small garden outside where you could sip your morning cappucino. Breakfast was somewhat Italian-style: croissants with apricot jam, sweet baked buns, espresso or cappucino. Yoghurt was to me the only "normal" breakfast item. Anyway I enjoyed the croissants even though I was hungry again right after having breakfast.
Beer and other drinks can be purchased from a fridge next to the reception with very affordable prices. There are no minibars in the rooms.

Hotel staff was very friendly and was also very helpful when asking advice about where to go in Milan. There isn't many restaurants nearby but one worth trying is Moby Dick with superb pizzas. Ask the reception for directions. Only a few bars and cafes can be found around the hotel so it's better to enjoy Milan's nighlife somewhere else. Although the prices in the city centre are outrageous. A pint cost 3 times as much in a beer garden right next to Duomo than it did in the neighbourhood near the hotel.

The rooms were very clean, althoug a bit gloomy. We had a room with private bathroom, otherwise the showers and toilets are in the hallway and have to be shared with other guests. Air-condition is a must due to the heat and thank god it worked perfectly in our room and was very quiet as well.

Made the booking from the hotel website: [--]

  • Liked — Hotel was quiet and clean. Friendly staff.
  • Disliked — The location could have been better...
