I've traveled to Milan together with my fiance and my 79 year old grandparents. I shortlisted over 10 hotels/hostels/apartments, inquiry for prices and so on. Finally, we chose Aladin mainly because of the reviews, price and positioning - an believe me, it was perfect! And not only for us, "the youngsters" (got used also to hiking/backpacking), but to my grandparents as well (they recently celebrated the 55th anniversary of their wedding, so this trip was kinda like a gift for them)
The staff is very friendly, open and willing to help on any matter.
The rooms (don't expect king-size on this money) are clean and functional equipped. The bed make-up was on daily basis (even if we stayed for 5 nights), same with the clean towels and overall room make-up - pleasant surprise for 1* hotel, compared to what other-Milan-1*-hotels-reviewers complained. Large bath, VERY clean!
I think there was no air conditioned (it was a giant device on one side of the closet, but I think it was a heating device or smth - we didn't have to use it as the other normal fan provided was more than enough), but we didn't need any.
The location is good-to-perfect, with direct access to subway - however, we strongly recommend buses, as traffic in Milan is very fluent and you have direct connections to the railway station (line 92, 10-15 minutes) and Duomo (line 54, 12-15 minutes).
Even if it doesn't offer breakfast, you have a small "universal" shop nearby and a good pizza place and other restaurants are just around the corner (half prices, compared to the center).
Perfect choice for the budget!
